Hey Yummy ARC – Nice Yong Tau Foo and Free Parking

Hey Yummy ARC was the restaurant we chose to eat in when we were at Alexandra Retail Centre recently. It is a simple restaurant and the affordable set meals menu seemed nice.

The Alexandra Retail Centre or ARC is located in the podium block of 460 Alexandra Road. I believe this was formerly known as the PSA Building. It is a place we seldom go to but we decided to think out of the box and explore the place. Free parking on certain hours and on weekends is one of the attractions of this place. Another reason to visit is the large NTUC Fairprice supermarket where we would circle back after lunch to buy some low hanging fruits.

Hey Yummy is part of the A-One restaurant group. We have tried the usual A-One Claypot outlets before but this was our first to a Hey Yummy outlet. It looks like a no-frills restaurant with nice pictures of local food and Chinese food on the menus.

Hey Yummy ARC Menu

There is quite a range of food items on the Hey Yummy ARC menu but our eyes were drawn to these large ones with bright illustrations. They look like carefully-curated menus containing many of the types of food that are popular in Singapore such as pao fun, yong tao foo and fried rice.

In addition to the various types of set meals Hey Yummy also has a number of Signature dishes available for takeaway. Quite wisely, they have refrained from trying to reinvent the wheel and have stuck to the usual Singapore tze char classics such as fried French beans and pork ribs “king”.

What We Ate

Our choices of food that day were the yong tao foo ($8.90+) and the sliced fish soup set meal ($12.90+). There was a choice of YTF with soup or dry YTF, swerved with steamed rice. We decided on the dry version and were happy with our choice. The yong tao foo were mainly pieces of different types of tofu with some vegetables and an egg. The taste of the tofu pieces were very good. The gravy had a nice rich taste that was synergistic with the young tao foo pieces. It is a dish we would order again.

We were less fond of the more expensive fish soup. The slight fishy taste and the very thin slices of fish are the main reasons. I believe the type of fish used was toman fish or snakehead. The set meal comes with rice, a small plate of fried kai lan and a drink.
