The Dim Sum Place is a popular restaurant with a rather extensive menu of dim sum items with no pork. It has recently opened an outlet in Orchard Road in The Centrepoint.
Dim Sum Place in The Centrepoint
The popular Dim Sum Place at North Bridge Road is a halal-certified establishment (according to the MUIS website as at the time of publication) where you can have your fill of dim sum late at night, especially on weekends when it stays open till 2 am. At the end of 2022, a new outlet was opened in The Centrepoint. The Dim Sum Place in Orchard Road also has rather long operating hours – from 10 am to 10 pm.
The Dim Sum Place in The Centrepoint is located in Basement 1 of the mall, near the escalators leading to the underpass connecting to Orchard Central. It looks like the typical casual dining dim sum restaurant but its signature bright orange colour makes it stand out.
The Menu of The Dim Sum Place
The menu of The Dim Sum Place is quite extensive. Besides most of the usual steamed and fried dim sum items, there are meat and seafood dishes as well as rice, congee and noodles.
Below is a picture of the menu board which will give a fair idea of the food items available. The full menu can be viewed online (link at the end of this post).
Lunch at The Dim Sum Place in The Centrepoint
We visited the new The Dim Sum Place in The Centrepoint on a recent weekend for an early lunch. The place was almost full at 11 am.
We ordered our usual dim sum items – Steamed Chicken Siew Mai with Shrimp ($6.90), Char Siew Bun ($5.90), Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp and Spring Onion ($9.90) and Deep Fried Carrot Cake ($6.90).
When we checked our blog post about our visit to the Dim Sum Place at North Bridge Road in 2019, we were surprised to see that the price for Deep Fried Carrot Cake was only $4.90 then. The price has increased by 40% over 3 years.
The price may be different but the carrot cake tasted about the same as we remembered it. It had a thin crispy outer layer and a soft inside. It was quite delectable and was even better with a dash of the dark dipping sauce provided.
We were quite impressed with the Chicken Char Siew Bun. The bun was soft and fluffy and the filling was juicy. The ratio of the bun to filling was about just right.
The chee cheong fun was also good. The vermicelli roll was smooth and silky and we liked its slightly springy texture. The filling of fresh tasting shrimp was quite generous.
The dim sum item we liked most was the classic Siew Mai with Shrimp. The dumpling filled with a mixture of minced chicken meat and shrimp was plumb and juicy with a slightly firm bite. It was tasty. We would say that it was as good as the standard siew mai in the popular Chinese dim sum restaurants in Singapore.
