Vietsmith Vietnamese Kitchen is a new Vietnamese restaurant in Millenia Walk. The spacious dining area and wide range of dishes in the menu attracted us to go in for an early lunch.
New Vietnamese Restaurant at Millenia Walk
Just like other shopping malls in Singapore, the dining scene at Millenia Walk has been evolving recently. Two of the interesting new comers to this glitzy shopping mall opposite Suntec City are Benihana teppanyaki restaurant and Vietsmith. The new Vietnamese restaurant gets quite crowded after 12 noon on weekdays and we were previously thwarted from lunching there due to the crowds. So on this occasion, we were there very early, around 1130 am and were the first customers for lunch.
Vietsmith Vietnamese Kitchen has a spacious, modern interior. It is easy to see why it is a nice place to go for lunch. With tables that are also fairly far apart, friends and co-workers can chit chat in comfort.
Vietsmith Menu
There is a wide range of Vietnamese food on the Vietsmith menu. Taking centrestage are the pho dishes. The popular Vietnamese noodle dish is available in many forms and with different variants. We decided to try the classic soup pho with sliced beef ($14.90), fresh spring roll with shrimp ($7.90) and grilled Saigon chicken ($15.90 for half chicken).
Our Vietnamese Lunch at Millenia Walk
Here is a picture of our Vietnamese lunch. The pho and grilled chicken dishes turned out to be smaller than we expected. So this was a light lunch.
Vietsmith Vietnamese Kitchen – The Art of Pho
The signboard on the wall says “The Art of Pho”. Which gave us high expectations of the pho. The pho was indeed good – translucent and delicate. But the portion was quite small. The soup was light and we could be happier with a beefier flavour. But what we missed most were the crunchy vegetables that are served at some other Vietnamese restaurants. There were some bean sprouts and mint leaves, but having them in large quantities would have made it more enjoyable.
Fresh Spring Roll and Roast Chicken
Our favourite dish of the day were the fresh spring rolls. With thin translucent skins, these classic Vietnamese snacks were very enjoyable.
The grilled chicken did not look very attractive. Fortunately it tasted better than it looks. The meat was tender but not much different from a typical grilled chicken. The main difference lies in the skin which appears to have been marinated with a sweetish sauce. Together with the fragrance of herbs and spices, it was a small but tasty chicken.
