La Savoir seems to be the unofficial ‘Hermès Cafe’ in Singapore. The classy restaurant at Scotts Square that uses precious Hermès tableware has an impressive Google review score of 4.5 stars. How much of that is attributed to the food and to the branded plates? There was only one way to find out. We headed to Orchard Road for a weekday lunch recently.
The Singapore Cafe That Uses Hermès Tableware
We went for lunch expecting to eat on beautiful plates, but La Savoir surprised us with more than that. The entire cafe is a beautiful place. What used to be the Coffee Academics coffee shop has been transformed into a most interesting restaurant space. Their large space is divided into different parts. We will show you the parts which we think are the best.
The Coffee Bar
The beautiful coffee bar itself is reason enough for celebration. But Hermès enthusiasts will squeal with delight when they look closer. Stacks of exclusive Hermès tea and coffee cups are ready for action. This place probably has more Hermès tableware than many stores.
Beautiful Spaces
Here are pictures of some beautiful spaces in the Scotts Square cafe. This row of tables are nicely lit in the day by natural light. They lead you to the “Amour a deux” section. which is a group of small tables for 2 pax along Scotts Road.
There is one private dining space at La Savoir. Named “Foliage De Soleil”, it can seat 6 pax.
Some items of the same series are displayed on a trolley outside.
La Savoir Menu
Enough of the room tour, let’s discuss the food. The La Savoir menu can be found on the CHOPE reservation website. Here are pictures of the Set Lunch Menu, afternoon tea at Savoir menu, kids’ menu, sample pages from the a la carte food menu and wine menu.
Our Lunch at La Savoir Restaurant at Scotts Square
These Hermès plates were waiting for us when we were seated. The restaurant was quite busy on a weekday, with about 70% of tables occupied. One large group seemed to be having a corporate event. We decided to try the Set Lunch which cost $48++.
Soup
We selected the lobster bisque (which attracted a $7 surcharge) and mushroom soup.
Both soups were good but the lobster bisque was the highlight. The seafood flavour in the soup was complex and rich. The chunks of lobster were larger than we expected. The extra $7 is worth spending on this.
Mushroom soup also has good depth of taste. The bold graphic print on the plate made it even better.
Main Course
Our main courses were Pan-Seared Salmon with Quinoa and Smoked Duck pasta. They had run out of Confit Salmon which is listed on the set lunch menu and replaced it with this one. We were happy with it as the fish was cooked very nicely and had a light, crisp skin. The sauce and other trimmings enhanced the taste and look of the dish significantly. This was the better main course choice that day.
On a normal day, we would be very happy with this pasta dish, but it was quite plain in comparison with the salmon.
Coffee In Hermès Cups
Lunch ended with coffee served in these botanical themed Hermès cups. The coffee is as good as those served in specialist coffee places. Served in these beauties, I cannot think of a better way to have coffee in Singapore. Service was friendly and prompt. Overall, we thought La Savoir’s high Google rating is very well-deserved.
