The new Park Side (PS) cafe draws inspiration from slow weekends and picnic afternoons. It is designed to resemble a welcoming cottage by the park. The interior features nature inspired-lighting and soft fabrics. The space incoprates floral prints and sketched illustrations of animals, representing creatures commonly found around the Botanic Gardens. The result is a relaxed environment, with distinctive character. It is a bright, welcoming spot for those who enjoy taking their time to enjoy good food and beverages, whether outdoors or in.

A Modern Take on Local Flavours

Park Side Menu - A Modern Take on Local Flavours

The menu caters to various times of the day. It draws on Singaporeโ€™s diverse culinary heritage. However, the kitchen does not attempt to replicate traditional local dishes. Instead, the focus is on reinterpreting taste memories through a Western lens. The chefs use ingredients and techniques that feel both comforting and new. Tropical fruits like mango and tamarind feature prominently. Spices such as turmeric and curry powder also add a local accent to the plates. The food is intended to be bold and approachable. Dishes are designed to be enjoyed casually and shared easily.

Brunch and All-Day Highlights

Park Side offers two distinct menus to its patrons. The kitchen serves brunch plates from 8 am to 4 pm. A signature highlight is the Hummingbird Pancake ($22). This dish features corn pancakes topped with caramelised pineapple and coconut mascarpone. It also includes Okinawa black sugar caramel. Another popular choice is the Tikka Paneer Toast ($22). This plate combines scrambled eggs with garam masala brown butter and mango yoghurt on sourdough.

The all-day menu starts at 11 am and continues until the cafe closes. It includes nibbles, larger plates, and a kids’ menu. The Tamarind Hot Honey Chicken Burger ($26) is one of the main stars of the menu. For those preferring seafood, the Spiced Fish & Chips ($28) offers a unique twist. The kitchen uses a curry beer batter for the fish and serves it with amchoor fries. Additionally, the Asian Tuna Tartine ($24) features tuna and cincalok mayo with a jammy egg.

Plant-Based and Shared Dining

Vegetarian options are also available. The Botanical Bowl ($24) contains turmeric cashew golden rice. Furthermore, the โ€œRojakโ€ Salad ($22) reinterprets a local favourite. It includes caramelised pineapple, crispy fritters, tempeh, and a peanut sesame crumb. For pasta lovers, the Woodland Pesto ($24) provides a robust dish with maitake mushrooms.

The cafe places a strong emphasis on takeaway dining. Many dishes are easy to eat by hand or with minimal cutlery. This makes the food perfect for a park bench or a picnic ground. Moreover, the packaging is designed with a clever secondary purpose. Diners can tear the packaging open and lay it out like a picnic mat. This allows for a shared outdoor feast anywhere in the gardens.

Signature Drinks and Desserts

For dessert, an ice cream kiosk serves soft serve and playful sundaes. The Bunny Hop ($14) features carrot cake and coconut cashew. Meanwhile, the Swan Lake ($14) includes vanilla cake and mixed berries. The beverage list is equally extensive. Signature creations include Sweet After Rain ($9), a cold brew with gula melaka and pandan. The Taro Cloud Genmaicha ($9) combines coconut milk with a taro topping. Refreshing slushies like the Mango Sago ($8) are also available.

Park Side

Park Side offers a spot for a moment of respite in the UNESCO World Heritage grounds. The new PS cafe represents a fresh yet familiar addition to the Singapore dining landscape.
