Dinner at Restaurant Atout, Dempsey Hill

Restaurant Atout is a quiet French restaurant located along Harding Road, away from the centre of the Dempsey dining zone. With only a small sign on a low rise building, it is not very visible at night, but it was a full house. We were treated to a sumptuous dinner there recently.

French Restaurant at Dempsey

It has been years since we last visited Restaurant Atout. That was in 2018 when it took over the place from the former Au Petit Salut. Since then it has grown to be a favourite among some regular Dempsey diners. We noticed that the space seemed larger. I believe they had absorbed the patio space into the interior space. It was almost a full house that day. Thank goodness the tables are spaced out and there was no sense of being over-crowded.

Restaurant Atout Menu

The full Restaurant Atout menu is available online. Here are pictures of a few pages for you to have a feel of the food served here. The range of food is wide including some not strictly French dishes such as the pasta and rice dishes.

What We Ate For Dinner

Dinner started with a French heirloom beetroot salad from the Restaurant Atout seasonal menu. It was a light refreshing dish. Very different from the usual dark coloured beetroot, these were sweet and without the earthy flavour.

Our generous host ordered some oysters. They were of different sizes but mainly plumb and juicy. They certainly looked and tasted really fresh.

The seafood linguine added more variety to our dinner. The sauce was good but we thought that the pasta could be more al dente.

Prime rib cooked bone-in is always something special. The 1 kg Angus prime rib was carved up at the table by the chef. This was done ceremoniously, making this dinner feel even more like a special occasion.

The meat looked less attractive after it was cut up into slices. But this was a practical way of deboning and sharing the meat. With different parts of the meat cooked to various levels of “doneness” diners could pick according to individual preferences. The meat was very good.

Dessert

Some thought that the meat dish was the highlight of dinner, but to some, the dessert was the star. This orange and Grand Marnier souffle is the one to get. Soft, fluffy and full of flavours, this is the way to end a sumptuous dinner on a sweet note. Service throughout the meal at Atout was attentive and friendly. This is a casual yet classy place to have dinner at Dempsey.
