New Restaurant: Choon Hoy Parlor

A new establishment is set to take diners on a nostalgic journey through the flavours of yesteryears, celebrating the essence of heritage and family traditions. Working together with chefs Benji Chew and Renee Tang, Chef Dylan Ong has put together a menu that showcases diverse local cultures. It features traditional recipes passed down through generations, as well as hawker dishes that hold a special place in the hearts of many Singaporeans.

Situated in Beach Road, the new restaurant offers a trip down memory lane. Upon entering Choon Hoy Parlor, patrons are greeted with the enchanting ambiance of yesteryears. The interior design, reminiscent of a 1960s Chinese salon, has vibrant neon lights to create a cheerful atmosphere. Adorned with retro posters and vintage furniture, the venue evokes a sense of nostalgia.

At the heart of Choon Hoy Parlor lies a menu brimming with soulful creations that pay homage to the heritage and culinary lineage of Dylan, Benji and Renee’s families. Each chef adds their own flair, skills and personal stories to bring fresh perspectives to traditional favorites. It is a delightful mix – some dishes stay true to the original recipes, while others showcase innovation and creative twists.

Some of the standout dishes at Choon Hoy Parlor include the Teochew Braised Duck and Pork Leg Trotter Jelly from Dylan’s family, the Braised Dua Cai by Chef Renee, and Chef Benji’s unique take on Rojak. Traditional favorites like Hainanese Kampong Chicken, Teochew Steam Fish and Coin Prata with Masala Lamb are also on offer.

For those looking for a twist on classics, there’s Ulam and White Pepper Pig’s Stomach Collagen Soup. There are also dishes inspired by the chefs’ travels, such as the CHP Signature Egg and Coffee Beef Short Rib.

For a sweet ending to a meal, there is the Durian Chendol. It is a decadent reinterpretation of the popular local dessert, featuring layers of pandan jelly, gula melaka sponge, and creamy durian puree.

Diners at Choon Hoy Parlor have the option to dine a la carte or enjoy the communal menu, priced at $49.90 per person for a minimum of three diners. Additionally, lunch sets are available at $18.90 and $24.90 per person, offering even more accessibility to the restaurant’s delectable offerings.
