Singapore’s Orchard Road has a wide array of Japanese restaurants. However, for those seeking a high-quality Japanese meal without breaking the bank, Kyojo Dining at Claymore Connect might just be the perfect choice.
Located on Level 1 of Claymore Connect (near the Orchard Hotel linkway), Kyojo Dining has an unassuming entrance marked by traditional Japanese curtains (noren) and sake barrels. Inside, the ambiance blends contemporary Japanese aesthetics with a smart casual feel, making it ideal for both relaxed lunches with colleagues or intimate dinner dates.
Menu of Kyojo Dining
While one of the signature items at Kyojo Dining is their Miyazaki Wagyu beef – a prized delicacy from southern Japan – its menu offers a wide range of Japanese cuisine. From sushi and sashimi to hearty shabu-shabu and sukiyaki, there should be something for anyone looking to have Japanese food. There are also classic Japanese fare like grilled meats and seafood, agemono and tonkatsu.

There is also a good selection of set meals and rice bowls.
Dinner at Kyojo Dining
We wanted a simple dinner and opted for the Sashimi Gozen ($25) and the A4 Wagyu Beef Don ($38.80 a la carte). Upgrading the donburi to a set for an additional $6 gave us a miso soup and chawanmushi.
The A4 Wagyu Beef Don was very good. Thinly sliced marbled beef topping fluffy Japanese rice, it offered a melt-in-your-mouth experience. Each bite was delightful, a testament to the high quality of the ingredients.
The Sashimi Gozen was a great value set. The sashimi selection was generous, featuring an assortment of fresh fish which had good texture. The plump prawn offered a touch of natural sweetness. The other accompaniments in the set were all delightful. However, the standout was the kani tofu (or crabmeat bean curd) – its delicate flavour and creamy texture were very palatable. We would have this dish again if we return to Kyojo Dining. A minor quibble was the dessert, which was a small and rather unremarkable piece of cake.
Good food and great value for money
Overall, our dinner at Kyojo Dining in Claymore Connect was a very enjoyable experience. The food was very good, with fresh ingredients and skillfully prepared dishes. The pleasant atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff further elevated the experience. While some Japanese restaurants in Orchard Road boast high-quality ingredients and delectable dishes, their prices can be quite out of reach for the ordinary patrons. Thankfully, Kyojo Dining strikes a perfect balance, offering good quality Japanese food and great value for money.
