June Coffee is a new hip cafe that has opened in Katong. Located at the junction of East Coast Road and Ceylon Road, just opposite the famous 328 Katong Laska shop, the new cafe draws in the crowds with the winning combination of stylish decor, welcoming staff, trendy cafe fare and good coffee.
June Coffee East Coast
June Coffee takes up a great spot on East Coast Road, spreading across two old shophouses. There are a few hotels just across the road. Car parking lots are available along Marshall Road and Ceylon Road. Plus, there is plenty of parking space in nearby buildings like Odeon Katong and Katong Square.
June Coffee East Coast is also easily accessible by public transport. A bus stop is just a few steps away the new Marine Parade MRT station less than a 10-minute walk away.
The cafe exterior has a fresh coat of paint and a stylish design that makes it stand out among its neighbours. It has converted the corridor facing Ceylon Road into a cool outdoor seating area.
The inside of June Coffee is modern and stylish. They have cleverly knocked a hole through the wall between the two shophouses, leaving the exposed brickwork as a cool design element. They have also made the most of the nooks and crannies of the space, creating different seating areas that work for everyone, from solo diners to families. The whole place is beautifully decorated – smart, elegant, and really inviting.
One thing to note – the soundproofing keeps the outside noise out, so the cafe can be a peaceful haven. But the sound can bounce around a bit inside, so it can get noisy when it is crowded. Not the best spot to whisper sweet nothing.
June Coffee Menu
June Coffee was still in its soft launch phase when we visited. That might explain the rather limited menu. However, they did have all the usual all day brunch fare, some pasta options and pastries.
Below are screenshots of June Coffee digital menu and drinks list.
There were cakes and pastries on display at the counter.
Brunch at June Coffee
Our food and drink choices for our brunch at June Coffee were Honey Lemon Ricotta French Toast ($17) with Mushrooms ($3 add on), Egg Mayo open sandwich ($15), Long Black ($4) and Cappuccino ($6).
The Honey Lemon Ricotta French Toast at June Coffee was an interesting dish. It offered two delicious ways to enjoy it. The dish featured a thick, fluffy brioche base topped with crunchy candied pecans and whipped ricotta cheese infused with lemon. When paired with earthy, peppery mushrooms, the combination of textures and flavours created a surprisingly delightful savoury dish.
It was a pretty big portion too, so we saved a quarter, drizzled it with honey, and it became a perfect and satisfying dessert.
The Egg Mayo was a simple cold dish. It was pretty standard cafe fare.
When the name of the cafe is “June Coffee”, we would expect the coffee to be good. We were not disappointed. The Long Black was aromatic and had a well-balanced sweetness that complemented the slight tartness. The light body brew was a refreshing cup of coffee. The Cappuccino had the acidity softened by the milk, resulting in a smoother and more indulgent drink.
Linger-worthy Cafe in Katong
Overall, our brunch experience at June Coffee was enjoyable.
Prices might seem a touch high, but they fall in line with what is typical for trendy cafes in Singapore right now. Interestingly, their black coffee comes in at a very reasonable $4, which is actually cheaper than most other cafes. The beautifully designed space offered an inviting atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. While the menu was on the smaller side, it featured all the usual cafe brunch dishes. They serve good coffee and free water. There are many good cafes in Katong, but June Coffee stands out as a stylish haven that invites you to linger a little longer.
