Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House is a new char siew and roast duck restaurant that opened at Holland Village a couple of months ago. With a ground floor, road side presence, it has a classic Hong Kong Cantonese noodle restaurant look which we could not resist checking out.
New Roast Meat Restaurant at Holland Village
The opening of the new One Holland Village shopping mall has brought added vitality to this popular shopping and dining enclave. In addition, new eateries have also opened recently in the surrounding shophouses such as Little Farms cafe and Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique, increasing the attraction of Holland Village in general.
With many of the new food options being in the form of western-style cafes and hip coffee joints, a new restaurant offering local food favourites such as wanton mee and char siew rice is always a welcome sight. The new Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House brings another option when dining out in this area. It is an air-conditioned restaurant with service. The decor is clean and simple with local coffeeshop style chairs and tables.
Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House Menu at Holland Village
The menu at Hiang Ji Holland Village offers roasted meats paired with different permutations of rice and noodles. These prices are before GST. No service charge was added.
Here are pictures of the menu. Roast or soy sauce chicken rice starts from $6.90, wanton noodle costs $7.50 and a whole roast duck costs $54.
Char Siew, Wanton Noodles and Roast Duck Rice
What we had for lunch were wanton noodles ($7.50) with extra char siew ($2.50) and a duck drumstick rice ($9.90).
This is the wanton noodles with extra char siew added. The regular wanton noodles would have included a few slices of char siew. The noodles were good with a good amount of bounciness, but less crunchy than the Hong Kong style. We like our char siew nicely charred with a slight smoky taste, such as the one at 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat . The char siew at Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House was heavily charred. Too much of a good thing, was what comes to mind. Fortunately, the saving grace was the middle was still soft and juicy.
Boiled wanton in the soup and deep-fried ones in the noodles were quite nice.
This is a picture of the roast duck drumstick rice with the drumstick deboned . Similar to the char siew, the duck skin was heavily charred but the insides were ok.
