Hello Arigato Tiong Bahru – Shokubuns, Sandos & Pasta in Heritage Neighbourhood

The popular cafe Hello Arigato has expanded its footprint once again, bringing its signature Japanese-inspired comfort food to Tiong Bahru. Occupying a corner unit in one of the neighborhood’s iconic pre-war Art Deco buildings, this new branch brings the brandโ€™s minimalist aesthetic with new items on its menu to the trendy heritage neighbourhood.

The exterior of Hello Arigato Tiong Bahru is striking, housed in a beautifully maintained white heritage building at the junction of Seng Poh Road and the pedestrianised Eng Hoon Street. Large glass windows wrap around the cafe, allowing plenty of natural light to flood the space and providing diners with a view of the interesting surroundings.

Inside, the design is clean and contemporary. The decor features light wood paneling, grey terrazzo flooring and oversized paper lantern lamps that cast a warm, soft glow. Seating options range from small round tables to a counter area overlooking the beverage preparation station. It is an inviting spot that feels both modern and rooted in the Tiong Bahru bohemian vibe.

The Menu of Hello Arigato Tiong Bahru

The menu at Hello Arigato Tiong Bahru is fairly extensive, featuring a dedicated breakfast range alongside their recognised staples. For early risers, the cafe has introduced Shokubuns, the soft and fluffy Japanese milk bread buns, available daily until 11 am. This selection includes the new Tuna Meltz ($10), featuring creamy tuna mayo and tobiko, as well as the Everyday Trufflinโ€™ ($10.50) with truffle mayonnaise and a “tornado” dashi egg.

The core of the menu remains their famous Sandos. While classics like the Gyu Sando and Tamago Sando are present, this Tiong Bahru branch offers two notable Outlet Exclusives: the CP Egg Sando ($16), which incorporates a local twist with Cai Po (preserved radish) dashi omelette and spicy Hae Bee Hiam, and the Yuzu Honey Chicken Sando ($16). The pasta selection continues the theme of Italian classics with Japanese twists.

A few items of desserts are available. To complement the food, the beverage menu includes specialty coffee roasted in-house as well as matcha. Below are screenshots of the digital menu.

Lunch at Hello Arigato

For a recent lunch, we tried one of the new exclusives, Yuzu Honey Chicken Sando ($16), and a vegetarian-friendly pasta option, Kinoko Pasta ($18). We also had a White Coffee ($5.50) and a Iced Matcha Latte ($7).

Yuzu Honey Chicken Sando

The Yuzu Honey Chicken Sando arrived neatly wrapped and halved. It has a generous portion of crispy chicken. The chicken was well-fried, retaining its juiciness, and was complemented by the bright, citrusy notes of yuzu honey mustard. The addition of baby romaine provided a fresh crunch, all held together by their fluffy, slightly toasted Japanese milk bread. It was a lighter, more refreshing alternative to the heavier meat-based sandos.

Kinoko Pasta

The Kinoko Pasta featured smokey wild mushrooms tossed in a savoury shoyu butter sauce. The spaghetti had a good al dente bite, but the star of the dish was the topping of crispy kale. The kale added a nice texture and a slight bitterness that balanced the richness of the cheese and the subtle heat from the togarashi chilli powder.
