Frying Fish Club Creamier is what you get when you have a collaboration between Creamier, said to the be one of the best ice cream cafes in Singapore with Frying Fish Club, said to produce one of the best fish and chips on the island. We dropped in on this pet friendly cafe along East Coast Road recently to try the best of both worlds.
Creamier x Frying Fish Club
The new collaboration, known as Creamier x Frying Fish Club is located at the place which used to be simply known as the Creamier East Coast outlet. It is in a shophouse along the main thoroughfare East Coast Road. There are street side parking lots just in front for those who are lucky.
The new collaboration has resulted in some modifications made to the cafe. The Japanese style prints of fish on fabric gave a hint of the most interesting item on the Frying Fish Club menu – Nori Fish & Chips. These added touches create a more inviting look for the cafe. You can compare these pictures with the original Creamier East Coast pictures taken on an earlier visit in 2023.
A large display of the highly popular Creamier ice cream still takes pride of place in the cafe.
Frying Fish Club Creamier Menu
Here are pictures of some portions of the menu. The drinks and ice cream sections look like the familiar Creamier cafe items.
The food menu that is the highlight at the Creamier x Frying Fish Club collaboration cafe. This picture of the physical menu does not contain all the food options. A few more items were available on the online menu. Our focus was on the fish and chips.
Frying Fish Club Creamier Nori Fish and Chips
This was the highlight of our visit – Nori Fish & Chips ($19.50). Pieces of nori (Japanese seaweed) were embedded into the batter of the fish. They provided bursts of saltiness and seafood flavour to the crispy batter. The fish inside was white and moist. Unlike the usual fish and chips that are usually made with haddock, halibut or cod, the ones here were made from Japanese white tuna (shiro maguro). I must say it is a very suitable fish for the purpose. Not as flaky as the North Sea fishes but also very clean tasting and I suspect not so prone to getting dry in the cooking process. As far as I can recall these rank as one of the best f & c we have tried, probably ranking it just after the ones we tried in Anstruther Fish Bar, Scotland.
Waffles and Ice Cream
Of course we cannot visit a Creamier cafe without having waffles with ice-cream. Now that the Sunday Folks cafe in Holland Village has closed and (I believe) so has the outlet at Ion Orchard, this is the place to go. Being from the same family, it has the same characteristics of those at Sunday Folks – a nice crisp exterior covering a soft moist interior. And topped off with a scoop of the famous Creamier ice cream. We are not sure how long the collab with Frying Fish Club will last or is it permanent. But we think it is a good idea.
