Dearborn in Everton Park for Healthy Granola

Dearborn in Everton Park is a charming bakery which specialises in small-batch, high-quality granola made with fresh, natural ingredients.

Healthy Granola

Granola, generally considered a healthy breakfast cereal, has a long and fascinating history. In 1863, James Caleb Jackson, an American nutritionist, created a super-hard cereal that required overnight soaking. Although Jackson’s “granula” didn’t gain popularity, the concept of cold cereal caught the attention of another advocate for “pure food,” John Harvey Kellogg. In the late 1870s or early 1880s, Kellogg began making his own version of “granula” using a mixture of wheat flour, oatmeal, and cornmeal. His version resembled the granola we know today. Jackson sued Kellogg, who subsequently renamed his breakfast cereal “Granola.”

Everton Park has many hidden F&B gems, and Dearborn is one of them. Located a few doors away from Dearborn is Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh and the hip Nylon Coffee Roasters is nearby.

Dearborn in Everton is a small venue with plenty of charm. The place is the granola kitchen and retail outlet of Dearborn, but you can enjoy your granola bowl at the cosy counter or on benches located in the corridor. Seating in the narrow corridor, which has a very low ceiling, may not be ideal in Singapore’s hot and humid climate. However, it has rustic charm, and the staff provides portable fans to help keep you cool.

A Simple Menu, Big on Flavour

Dearborn keeps things straightforward with a menu featuring granola bowls, sourdough toast, and refreshing drinks. Choose from three flavours of granola to pair with creamy yogurt or plant-based milk. The limited menu caters to various dietary needs with vegan and dairy-free options.

Their beverages are house-made, featuring unique options like Yuzu Citrus Soda alongside coffee sourced from Nylon Coffee Roasters.

The sourdough toast with Dearborn butter ($5) was a classic combo – perfectly toasted bread and a delightful delicious house-made butter. We would order the toast again just to enjoy the butter.

We tried the Strawberry Macadamia Granola Bowl with coconut vanilla yoghurt ($9), and the Dark Chocolate Hazelnut & Sea Salt with Greek yoghurt ($8). Both were very enjoyable. The strawberry macadamia offered a delightful mix of sweetness and crunch, and the aromatic and slightly sweet coconut vanilla yoghurt was simply yummy. The chocolate hazelnut with Greek yoghurt would please those who prefer a tangier base.

Finally, the black cold brew coffee ($6) lived up to the hype. Smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced, it was good coffee for any time of the day.

Delightful Experience

Our visit to Dearborn was a delightful experience. Their simple yet flavourful granola bowls proved that healthy eating doesn’t have to be bland. Plus, knowing everything is made fresh and free of artificial ingredients makes it even better.

Dearborn is near the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) campus. Feeling a bit down after a visit to SGH? Have a new resolve to eat healthily? Dearborn’s delicious food can lift your spirits and start you on your journey to healthy, clean eating. Plus, their prices won’t give you a shock – unlike those hospital bills. Just like the friendly hospital staff, Dearborn’s service is efficient, attentive and warm.
