Mensho Tokyo Singapore – My $33 Michelin Ramen Lunch

Mensho Tokyo Singapore branch at Raffles City is the most glamorous ramen place I have seen. Described as “Michelin Guide Ramen From Tokyo” this ramen restaurant opened around July 2024 to rave reviews. Following a recent reduction in prices, I thought that it was time to visit them. Ramen restaurants are one of the best restaurants for solo dining.

A Beautiful Ramen Restaurant in Singapore

According to an article in 8days, over $1 million was spent to set up this place. I am not surprised. It is a large restaurant that looks more like a fine dining restaurant than a ramen shop. The complex ceiling work is a thing of beauty. The full height glass windows look out at Stamford Road. The window seats are the best. But none was available at the time of my visit. Instead, I was assigned a middle-of-the-room small table.

Of course, someone has to pay for all that beauty. When Mensho Tokyo Singapore first opened, its ramen prices were from $26 to $38 but these have since been reduced. According to the same 8days article, a week or so after opening, prices were reduced to $17 to $28. Despite the price drop, serving portions and toppings are said to remain the same. This seems to have worked. Soon after I arrived after opening time on a weekday, a constant stream of diners followed.

Mensho Tokyo Singapore Menu

Here are pictures of some pages from the Mensho Tokyo Singapore online menu. It soon became obvious that this is no ordinary ramen restaurant. In addition to the wide range of ramen options, there are also many options for toppings, side dishes, tea and drinks (such as sake).

Signature Toripaitan Ramen

On this first and introductory visit to Mensho Tokyo Singapore, I thought it would make sense to try the Signature Toripaitan ramen, which is priced at $28. With GST and service charge, this was a $33.57 bowl of ramen. Mind you, the signature ramen is not the most expensive. There is a $41 A5 Wagyu (no soup) ramen. That will have to wait till someone else is paying the bill. The ramen was exquisitely plated and served with a nice wooden spoon and chopsticks.

The signature ramen has several types of chashu toppings – A5 wagyu, smoked pork, duck and chicken. A clump of fried burdock root added crunch to the dish. The rich creamy chicken soup was delicious and the wavy ramen was chewy, with the right amount of bounce. Some truffle sauce was also included on the side which I thought was not necessary. The invasion of truffle flavours seem to be common at many places to add a ‘premium’ touch which I thought was not needed in this case. Eating good ramen in such a beautiful place is premium enough. I think on a future visit to Mensho Tokyo Singapore, I will get a basic ramen as I don’t really need so many toppings and additional flavours to an already good basic ramen. But I would keep the egg in any event – it was very good.
