Onggi at Suntec City is a Korean restaurant that offers a warm and inviting dining experience. It specialises in Gomtang, a traditional Korean soup simmered for hours, but a few typical Korean staples are also on the menu.
Onggi Korean Restaurant in Suntec City
“Onggi” (pronounced “ŌHNG-ghee”) is a Korean word which describes traditional pottery. Koreans use these pottery bowls to store soy sauce, soybean paste, and gochujang (Korean red pepper paste). The restaurant’s name reflects its focus on traditional Korean flavours.
Onggi is located on Level 2 of Suntec City, at the convention centre end. It is somewhat hidden in a cul-de-sac near the popular Din Tai Fung Suntec outlet.
The restaurant blends modern design with traditional Korean elements. It uses earthy tones and wooden furnishings, creating a cosy atmosphere. The dining area is quite large and divided into different sections. Tables are comfortably spaced apart.
The Menu of Onggi
Gomtang is the main attraction at Onggi. This hearty soup comes in various versions. You can try beef, pork, chicken, or ox-bone. Onggi’s menu also offers a few other Korean favourites – such as kimchi pancakes and galbijjim (braised beef ribs).
Below are a few screenshots of the digital menu of Onggi.
Gomtang & Stew
We ordered the Dak Gomtang ($15.90) and Chadol Doenjang Jjigae ($16.90). Both came with rice and side dishes. They were nicely presented on wooden trays.
“Dak” means chicken. Dak Gomtang was a rich, milky chicken broth with chicken meat and various vegetables and mushrooms.
Chadol Doenjang Jjigae was a stew made with thinly sliced beef (chadol) and a rich, soybean paste (doenjang) broth. There were tofu and vegetables in the stew.
Both the chicken gomtang and beef stew were palatable and made for a satisfying meal. They were comforting, flavourful, and ideal for a cold evening or whenever you crave something hearty.
