Fortuna Italian Restaurant at Tanjong Pagar: Sicilian and Neapolitan cuisine

Flavours of Southern Italian cuisine are what’s on offer at the new Fortuna Italian Restaurant at Tanjong Pagar. The cosy trattoria and pizzeria in Singapore was a full house when we recently visited for a weekday lunch. The handcrafted pastas and artisanal pizzas seem to have struck a chord with Singapore diners.

Fortuna Italian Restaurant Menu

Here are pictures of the Fortuna Italian Restaurant menu. We were there during Christmas and some of the items may have been modified for the festive period.

Quite a bit of information is provided on the pizza and pasta dishes on the website.  The pizzas are said to use dough that undergoes a 50-hour fermentation process. As for the pasta, they are made fresh daily using Semola and 00 Tipo flour. Expectedly, these items take centrestage in the Fortuna restaurant menu.

Wine List

Here is a picture of a page from the wine list. Most of the entries are Italian wines. Bottles start from about $90.

We tried a bottle of Vigna Chardonnay ($86) that was fresh and uncomplicated.

Our starters included the X’mas Burrata and Truffle ($26 picture above) and grilled cauliflower seasoned with salsa and pine nuts ($18). We thought the burrata was average but the cauliflower was enjoyable.

Fortuna Italian Restaurant Pizza

Fortuna pizzas are served in two sizes – Piccola’ (22 cm with 4 slices ) or Grande (30 cm with 6 slices).

We tried the Sitari pizza piccola size ($35). This was pizza with Wagyu tartare toppings. Any concern about eating raw beef disappeared when the pizza arrived. The beef content was quite small and any meat flavour was hardly noticeable. The main star of the show was the dough, so we think it doesn’t matter what flavour, it will be nice because the crust is fluffy, light and crispy.

The same can be said for the Alba pizza grande size ($44). With burrata cheese and mushrooms as toppings, this large pizza was more attractive and better tasting. But the highlight was still the dough. Flavourful and light. Bearing this in mind, we would go simply for the most affordable Margherita pizza on the next visit.

Pasta and Main

Our pasta dish was Mafalde pasta ($34) with pork and beef ragout sauce. This was also a good dish. The mafalde pasta is something we don’t see often. It is a ribbon shaped pasta with the thickness of the pasta they use for lasagne, The texture was nice and chewy and the sauce had a light meaty taste. This is a dish we would order again.

Our last dish was lamb shank ($56). It was well cooked and the meat fell off the bone easily. But it was quite a small portion. With all that food, there was no room for dessert. Lunch ended on a meaty note,
