88 Hong Kong Roast Meat at Lavender Street is often considered one of the best char siew places in Singapore. On this visit we tried the 88 HK Roast Meat $6 Char Siew Noodles with a couple of add-ons.

The famous char siew noodle shop at Lavender Street has doubled in size since our previous visit in 2023. At that time they operated out of the coffee shop at 308 Lavender Street. On this latest visit in 2025, we saw that they had expanded into the shop unit next door – 306 Lavender Street. Both units are connected by a doorway inside. Food ordering and food preparation take place in the new unit.

The original unit is now used for dining and service of drinks. The increased capacity helped the restaurant to cope better with the peak hour lunch crowd. It was a busy place when we went there on a weekday during lunch hour. But order taking and service was fast enough such that the queue was constantly moving. The larger dining area also meant that table availability was also much improved as compared to our previous visit.

Here are pictures of the 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat menu. Making a quick comparison with the pictures of the menu taken on our 2023 visit, it would appear that some items have seen slight price increases and some have remained the same. The duck rice and char siew rice prices were $5 each in 2023. Now they cost $5.50. The price of purely char siew seems to have remained the same – $60 and $30 for a kg and half kg respectively.

$6 Char Siew Noodles at Lavender Street

On our previous visit we were in a larger group and were able to order more items. This visit was quite different – just a quick lunch for 2 pax. So it was a simple order of char siew noodles and wanton soup. Each of these dishes cost $6. We also asked for lava egg add-on for each bowl of noodles.

We were happy that everything was as good as we remembered them to be. The char siew was still the best part of the meal. The dark caramelised and smoky “skin” added extra flavour to the meat while the inside of the pork remained tender and moist. We were glad that the slices were still chunky and substantial.

The two pieces of vegetable in each bowl were also of good quality and substantial. “Noodles were better than rice” – that was the lesson from our last visit and that was why we only had noodles on this visit. And it was good advice to our future self at that time.

Leaving aside the lava egg, this was a very good value for money bowl of $6 char siew noodles. Adding the egg made the dish more interesting and visually appealing in the photo, but it was not necessary and we might not do it again on a future visit.

The wanton soup was consistently good and was enough to be shared by two diners. This is an add-on we will do again as it complements the dryness of the char siew and heaviness of the chilli (in the dry noodles) very well.
