Anagram Coffee: Cute Cafe Near Ikea Alexandra

Anagram Coffee at Anchorpoint was a cafe we did not expect to find at this smallish shopping mall opposite Ikea Alexandra. It is tucked away in a corner of the mall which we seldom go to. Together with a bunch of stores like Overbrød (Scandinavian Deli), Tiong Bahru Bakery and The Palm Press (casual clothing boutique) this part of the mall looks more like Joo Chiat than Queensway.

This area looked to us like it was newly-developed. It felt like an oasis with lush greenery in front and a few benches scattered around. It stood in contrast to the rest of the shopping mall, which looked like a typical shopping mall in Singapore.

Good Coffee at Anchorpoint

According to their website, Anagram Coffee started business in November 2022 with three core principles: coffee, service, and design. Although it may be premature to pass any judgement based on one brief visit, we thought that they did very well in these areas. The most impressive being the “design” part.

Small but stylish, this is a store that beckons you to go in. Beautiful coffee machines in a minimalist set up made us want to open a small cafe like this. Make it pet friendly so that we can play with the customers’ dogs and it could be a dream job. The Japanese style paper lamp shade and the fake ‘window’ high up on the wall were small touches that made the store feel cozy.

Meanwhile, we are now back to reality. Here is a picture of the Anagram Coffee menu. It is quite a limited menu with a few choices of coffee and some non-coffee drinks.

A small selection of snacks are available to eat with the coffee at Anagram Cafe.

Coffee and Cookie at Anchorpoint

Here is a picture of the cappuccino and black coffee with a double chocolate cookie. As is the case with many hip cafes these days, the seats are hard and not very comfortable, so this is not a place to linger or for long conversations. But the coffee was smooth and had a balance of sweetness and acidity.

There are larger and more comfortable places for coffee at Anchorpoint such as Tiong Bahru Bakery, The Marmalade Pantry and Common Man Coffee . But for a quick coffee and snack break, this is a delightful place.
