Good Chance Popiah Eating House has been delighting customers with its delicious popiah (spring solls) since 1977. Built on an old family recipe, the business has a loyal following over the years and is now run by a third generation family member. A new outlet, Good Chance Cafe, has opened in Marina Square recently, offering their signature popiah as well as kueh pie tee, alongside a variety of one-dish meals and soups.

Good Chance Cafe

Located on level 2 of Marina Square, Good Chance Cafe has two dining areas: one inside the compact shop and another in the open atrium space. The interior decor evokes a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of a Chinese eatery from the 1980s. It has functional furniture. The outdoor seating area feels more airy, though you might attract the attention of passersby curious about you or the food you are enjoying

The signature items on the menu are the Popiah and Kueh Pie Tee.
In addition, Good Chance Cafe also offers a variety of rice and noodle dishes, as well as soups and desserts. Local kopi, teh, and other beverages are available too. Below are pictures of the menu.
Popiah & More

We visited Good Chance Cafe at Marina Square recently and ordered the Popiah ($7.30 for 2 pieces), Ah Gong Fried Mee Sua ($9.90) and Salted Egg Mince Pork Patty Rice Set ($11.90 + $3 top up).

We enjoyed the popiah at Good Chance Popiah Eating House in Silat Avenue, and the popiah at Good Chance Cafe did not disappoint. The advantage of the Marina Square cafe is that we don’t have to wrap the rolls ourselves. The spring rolls were prepared to order, served ready-wrapped and cut. The freshly wrapped popiah was delicious. Comfort food that was enjoyable.

The fried mee sua with minced prawns had a mix of various ingredients, including fried egg and crunchy cabbage. It was a satisfying dish with a good balance of textures. It was not bad but we have had better versions of fried mee sua at other places.

The Salted Egg Minced Pork Patty Rice was priced at $11.90, but for an additional $3, we could upgrade it to a set meal, which included a drink and a small bowl of the popiah vegetables (used for the popiah filling). However, the portion of vegetables was very small — we did not think it would even be enough for half of a popiah roll. The tiny portion aside, the vegetables was a good side dish. The minced pork patty was tender and had the rich and savoury taste of salted egg. The dish was overall a satisfying meal.

Good for Popiah
Good Chance Cafe at Marina Square offers a convenient city centre location for delicious traditional popiah. The cafe also serves a decent variety of rice and noodle dishes, though the main attraction remains the popiah.
