Fish Mart SAKURAYA : Japanese Restaurant Opposite IKEA Alexandra

Fish Mart SAKURAYA is a Japanese restaurant in the basement of Anchorpoint, the shopping mall opposite IKEA Alexandra. It is hidden from a casual visitor to the mall as it is tucked away at the end of B1. But it seems to be popular with nearby residents and office workers who shared the restaurant with us during lunch time on a weekday.

The restaurant area is spacious and decorated like a typical Japanese casual restaurant.

Fish Mart SAKURAYA Anchorpoint Menu

The restaurant menu was quite extensive with a wide variety of the usual Japanese restaurant staples such as sushi, sashimi, tempura, grilled fish and tofu dishes. Here are pictures of some sample pages of the menu.

What we ate at Fish Mart SAKURAYA

Tempura soba is one of our usual dishes to try at unfamiliar Japanese restaurants. At Fish Mart SAKURAYA, the tempura soba costs $16. The tempura prawns were fresh but we thought that the batter was rather thick and hard. The noodles were nice with the right amount of bounce. We thought that the tempura soba was above average for the price.

We also tried a few types of grilled fish (picture below). From left to right saba shioyaki (mackerel $8), salmon teriyaki ($10) and gindara teriyaki (cod, $19). Our favourite one was the mackerel. Not just because of its lowest price but also the flavour and texture of the fish were good. The salmon and cod had a less firm texture and the teriyaki seasoning was a tad sweet for our liking.

Overall, eating at Fish Mart SAKURAYA was a pleasant experience. It is also very convenient when shopping at IKEA Alexandra.
