San Ren Xing Thomson Plaza : Popular Chinese Restaurant

San Ren Xing Thomson Plaza (三人行) seems to be one of the more popular restaurants in this suburban Singapore shopping mall. It is a Chinese restaurant specialising in Fujian and Sichuan cuisines. With many promotional deals and a 4.8 Google review rating, this was a place that we needed to check out.

Popular Chinese Restaurant in Upper Thomson

San Ren Xing restaurant has three outlets in Singapore. Its other outlets are in Bedok Mall and Bugis Junction. We went to San Ren Xing Thomson Plaza on a weekday at lunchtime and the restaurant was packed. All the large tables were taken by groups which seem to be residents and working folks on their lunch breaks from the surrounding Upper Thomson area.

This is a picture of the restaurant interior before the peak hour crowd arrived. It is a pleasant space with a traditional Chinese restaurant decor.

Discounts and Early Bird Deals at San Ren Xing 三人行

Various discount deals and early bird discounts are available at San Ren Xing Thomson Plaza. A 20% discount was offered for takeaway orders (self collection). A few “value bento sets” were also available.

To encourage diners to patronise the restaurant outside the usual peak lunch hours from 12 noon to 2pm, a 20% discount was available for early birds on Monday to Friday (11am to 12pm for lunch and 5pm to 6pm for dinner). Also available was a 30% incentive for off-peak dining at 2.30 to 4.30pm from Monday to Saturday.

Lunch Time Specials at San Ren Xing 三人行

San Ren Xing Thomson Plaza has quite an extensive a la carte menu which is available online (link below). It was a quick lunch for us and we focused on the weekday set lunch specials. We selected the one with braised Nanping noodle as the main dish.

In addition to the main dish, the set meal included a mushroom salad, a coconut drink (which replaced the barley indicated on the menu) and a meat side dish. There were two options for the side dish – braised chicken and tofu or pork ribs. We selected one of each.

Both the chicken and pork ribs were nice and well cooked till the meat was very soft and fell off the bone easily. But we preferred the chicken drumstick as it had a larger meat quantity.

The highlight of the meal was the noodles. This noodle dish had a good combination of a decent amount of seafood ingredients, pleasant chewy noodles and broth that was thick and rich. We thought that this would be comparable to the noodles and soup in a good Japanese ramen.
