Weekend Dim Sum at Si Chuan Dou Hua

Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, part of the Pan Pacific Hotels Group, serves authentic Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine and good dim sum dishes. The UOB Plaza outlet offers great views and an elegant setting. It is a very good spot for a weekend dim sum lunch.

The space on the 60th storey of UOB Plaza 1 in Raffles Place is home to Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, Tian Fu Tea Room, and Chuān @ The Sixtieth bar. Si Chuan Dou Hua is well suited for high-end business meals. The panoramic views over much of Singapore add to its appeal as a dining venue.

The restaurant has a contemporary interior. Simple yet refined, with a business-class elegance. The most striking design elements, perhaps, are the views framed by the many large windows.

Weekend Dim Sum

Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant Weekend Dim Sum Lunch

We recently enjoyed a weekend dim sum lunch at Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant as part of a family gathering. With more people at the table, we were able to try a wide variety of dim sum dishes. A highlight of a Si Chuan Dou Hua dining experience is the tea master’s performance, where the art of tea-pouring is combined with elements of martial arts and dance, using a long-spouted bronze kettle. We were delighted to witness this impressive display once again.

We ordered several classic dim sum items, including steamed BBQ pork buns (or char siew paus), siu mai, carrot cake, and steamed chicken feet. As for pricing, the menu prices for most dim sum items were $7.50 for a standard order of 3 pieces.

The steamed BBQ pork buns deserved a special mention. The filling of barbecued pork was generous and moist, with an ideal balance between sweet and savoury. The bun was very light and fluffy. It was one of the best char siew paus we have had in recent times.

Deep-Fried Taro Puff with Scallop in Curry Paste, Pan-fried Minced Meat Bun, Crispy Sweet Potato Pancake and Glutinous Rice Roll with Chicken Floss wrapped in Banana Leaves were among the other dim sum dishes we tried. They were all interesting and enjoyable.

We also had a few small noodles and rice dishes as well as the Stir-fried Kai Lan with Preserved Vegetables ($33 for Medium). The simple vegetable dish turned out to be the star of the meal. The kai lan stems were cooked just right, remaining slightly crisp and juicy without being tough. The toppings of preserved vegetables and crispy deep-fried kai lan leaves added textures and depth of flavours and took the dish to another level.

A Weekend Treat

Overall, our weekend dim sum lunch at Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant was an enjoyable experience. The service was attentive, and we especially appreciated that the staff were willing to adjust the number of dim sum pieces to suit the size of our group, rather than restricting us to the fixed sets of three or four that many other establishments require. In terms of value, the prices were reasonable, and with a 15% discount for UOB credit card payments the deal became even more attractive. Additionally, the pleasant atmosphere was enhanced by the great views from one of Singapore’s tallest buildings.

All things considered, the weekend dim sum lunch at Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant in UOB Plaza proved to be an excellent weekend treat.
