Dew by Whitegrass is a casual and lower priced restaurant next to its more gifted sister, the one Michelin star Whitegrass restaurant. Both of them are situated in the beautiful CHIJMES dining enclave, which is always a beautiful place to visit for a quiet weekday lunch.
Walking the Corridors of CHIJMES
The restaurant is located in the heart of the CHIJMES area where two of the most iconic buildings are located. Dew by Whitegrass is on the ground floor of the Caldwell House. This is the big building next to the CHIJ Chapel (the centre piece that has the iconic spire and stained glass windows). Even the walk there was enjoyable. The ornate columns and geometric tiles make it such a stylish place. This is a picture of the corridor leading up to the restaurant.

Affordable Whitegrass Restaurant
After all the excitement from the exterior, we were brought to reality when we entered the restaurant. It has a nice bistro-like atmosphere but a big change of atmosphere from the scenery outside. The doorway on the left leads to the main Whitegrass restaurant. There the lunch and dinner menus are priced at $98++ and $218++ respectively.
Dew by Whitegrass Menu
This is a picture of the main section of the Dew restaurant menu. At lunch time there is a set lunch menu.
A Dew Set Lunch menu with some food highlights together with food utensils, serviettes and the ubiquitous QR quote for self-ordering. Each lunch set is made up of an otoshi, salad and main course. Coffee or tea was not included in the set but was available with a $3++ top-up. Free flow water was also available at $3++ per pax.
There were four choices of main course for lunch. We chose the pan roasted chicken don ($28++) and braised Iberico don ($30++).
Set Lunch at Dew by Whitegrass Restaurant
According to an internet search, “otoshi” is a small appetizer served at Japanese-style pubs called izakaya, similar to an amuse-bouche. At our Dew restaurant lunch it was a a bite sized portion of what looked like seaweed and seafood with croutons. A simple and pleasant start to our meal.
The salad of the day was a plate of mixed vegetables. It seemed to be randomly plated and we thought it looked rather messy.
As for the main course, we thought that the chicken rice bowl (picture above) was rather average. The Iberian pork was much better. The braised pork with hints of lemongrass flavour had a nice texture and a more complex taste.
