Wan Jin Yuan Curry Rice at Holland Village Market

Wan Jin Yuan is one of the many stalls at Holland Village market and food centre that we have passed by and wanted to check out. Today we will show you our economical bee hoon and $4 curry rice lunch.

Holland Village Market & Food Centre

One of the reasons Holland Village is so popular is the diversity of food options available.Holland Village Market & Food Centre is located next to the new One Holland Village shopping mall. The stalls at the Market & Food Centre offer a wide range of fresh produce and cooked food that complements those available at the more upmarket shops and restaurants nearby.

The hawker centre or food centre is spread over two levels. Most of the food stalls are on the upper level. Wan Jin Yuan Curry Rice is one of the few on the lower level.

The stall is simple and neatly laid out with vegetables on the top tier and the meats and other items on the lower tier.

Prices are listed on the signboard. The range of dishes is wide but certainly not the widest we have seen at a cai fan stall. But there is certainly enough choice. In addition to the usual dishes, this stall also serves braised and kway chap items. Pig intestines and braised duck drumsticks are on the menu.

Our Economical Lunch at Holland Village

Here is a picture of our lunch at Holland Village Market & Food Centre. We tried a Curry Rice Set that cost $4 and an a la carte selection of mee hoon, egg, meat and vegetables. The total cost was $8.60 without any service charge or GST to worry about.

This is the curry rice set (picture below). This is a plate of rice with rice, cabbage, fried egg and a choice of chicken or pork. We chose the latter (which may be a bad idea). The rice, cabbage and egg were uneventful. They were what they should be. The curry sauce was very mild, like Japanese curry but with more sweetness than spiciness. The pork was cut into tiny shreds and barely made their presence felt.

We had better results with our a la carte selection (picture below). The bee hoon was nice and dry while the mixed vegetables had an interesting mix of items including leek. We were most pleased with the fried chicken as this was cut into large chunks and the portion was more substantial than the pork in the rice set. The braised egg had the braise flavours well infused. Our $4.60 was well spent on this dish.
