Singapore’s pioneering kappo-style Japanese restaurant announces final service on 29 December 2025
Esora, one of Singapore’s first kappo-style fine dining establishments, will close its doors permanently on 29 December after eight years. The Japanese restaurant announced its closure last week.

What is Kappo-Style Dining?
Kappo refers to a traditional Japanese dining style where chefs prepare dishes in front of guests. This intimate format allows diners to watch the cooking process and interact directly with the chef. Esora was among the first fine dining restaurants in Singapore to introduce this concept to local diners.

Esora’s Culinary Legacy
Esora is a Michelin star restaurant of The Lo & Behold Group. The restaurant became known for blending traditional Japanese techniques with modern cooking methods. Its signature dish, the Foie Gras Monaka, gained recognition amongst food enthusiasts. Esora also has a tea-pairing programme, matching premium teas with each course.
Located in the Mohamed Sultan dinning precinct, Esora focused on seasonal ingredients at their peak freshness. This approach aligned with Japanese culinary philosophy, where timing and ingredient quality determine the dining experience.

Esora’s closure marks the end of a chapter in Singapore’s Japanese fine dining story. The restaurant helped introduce Singaporeans to authentic kappo-style service, influencing other establishments to adopt similar approaches.
Many of Esora’s former team members have gone on to lead kitchens at other restaurants across Singapore. This has spread the kappo-style techniques and service standards throughout the local dining scene.
What Diners Can Expect Before Closure

The restaurant will continue normal operations until its final day of service. Guests can still experience Esora’s seasonal menu and tea-pairing programme during this period. Reservations are expected to be in high demand as diners seek a final meal at the establishment.
Singapore’s Fine Dining Landscape
Singapore’s fine dining sector has seen significant changes in recent years. The impending closure of Esora highlights ongoing challenges in Singapore’s fine dining sector. High operating costs and changing consumer behaviour continue to affect premium restaurants across the city. Successful fine dining establishments now focus more on unique experiences rather than just exceptional food. This shift reflects diners’ desire for memorable occasions beyond traditional restaurant service.
Esora’s eight-year run demonstrates both the potential and challenges of operating a fine dining restaurant in Singapore’s competitive market.
