Many Singaporeans were introduced to Dal.Komm Coffee through the hit K-drama Descendants of the Sun, and the brand has since become associated with Korean coffee culture. However, Dal.Komm Playground at Guoco Midtown offers a different experience. Operating as an all-day dining concept with a rather extensive menu, it transforms from a casual cafe during the day into a bar in the evening.

Dal.Komm Playground

Located on the ground level of Guoco Midtown in an area called Midtown Market, Dal.Komm Playground takes design inspiration from a foxโs den. Cosy nooks and corners dot the interior, providing intimate seating options. There is a sheltered al fresco area. The atmosphere is cheerful and relaxed. The setting works equally well for a leisurely brunch, lunch meetings or evening drinks.

Menu of Dal.Komm Playground
Dal.Komm Playground’s menu goes beyond the usual cafe offerings. It features contemporary Korean-inspired dishes alongside Western brunch classics. The selection includes communal plates, substantial mains and desserts. Beverages range from house coffee blends to exclusive Korean alcoholic drinks.

A Light Brunch

During a weekend brunch visit, we sampled two main dishes and two beverages. The K-Bowl Braised Beef ($16.90) and Jajjang Udon with Meatball ($16.90) represented the Korean-influenced offerings. We paired these with a Sweet Potato Latte ($8.20) and an Americano ($5.90).

The K-Bowl Braised Beef is Dal.Komm’s take on bibimbap. The bowl contains white rice as its base. Radish bean sprouts, mushrooms, kale, carrot, cucumber, and seaweed provide colour and flavours. Kimchi adds the essential fermented element. A sunny-side-up egg sits on top.
The restaurant serves a house sauce separately. Diners can add it according to their preference. This approach lets each person control the flavour intensity.
The K-Bowl was a satisfying meal. The kimchi stood out. It was well-pickled, achieving a balance between sweet and tangy notes. The braised beef was tender and well-seasoned. It provided protein substance to complement the vegetables.

The Jajjang Udon with Meatball was an interesting fusion dish. Thick udon noodles formed the base. The chef’s special black bean sauce coated the noodles. Potato and mixed vegetables added bulk and texture. A lava egg sat on top.
The textural contrast worked well. Chewy udon provided a nice bite. The black bean sauce itself was well balanced. It carried the characteristic earthy flavour without overwhelming saltiness. The dish was a delicious version of the jajangmyeon (noodles in blackbean sauce).

The Sweet Potato Latte surprised with its intensity. The sweet potato flavour came through distinctly. Its aroma was unmistakable. The drink was rich and creamy. It could almost function as a liquid dessert rather than just a beverage. The Americano served its purpose for those wanting a straightforward coffee.

Like to dine there again
Dal.Komm Playground offers a very pleasant atmosphere. Its varied menu allows for different dining occasions, whether for a full meal, light snacks or just desserts and drinks. Staff members were polite and welcoming during our visit. Service was attentive without being intrusive and orders arrived very promptly. The quality of the food exceeded our expectations for the price point. We would definitely like to dine there again.
