White Restaurant at Suntec City is part of a local chain known for its Original Sembawang White Bee Hoon (ไธๅทดๆบ็ฝ็ฑณ็ฒ). The brand has several outlets across Singapore, including in Sembawang, Waterway Point, VivoCity, Sun Plaza, Jewel Changi and IMM. It is a casual dining restaurant with affordable prices and a decent range of dishes. White Restaurant is one of those places that springs to mind when we are hungry and need to decide quickly where to eat.

Sembawang White Bee Hoon
Founded in 1999, the restaurant started as a hawker stall in Chong Pang Market. When the market closed in 2000, they moved to Jalan Tampang. Officially named You Huak Restaurant, it became so well known for its signature dish that customers began calling it the ‘Sembawang White Bee Hoon Restaurant.’ The family run restaurant has grown into a chain with a central kitchen.

White Restaurant Suntec City is located in the basement of Suntec City’, in the circular zone around the base of the Fountain of Wealth. The premises have recently been refreshed. The brightly lit space looks pleasant and spacious, with different seating arrangements to accommodate parties of various sizes.
White Restaurant Suntec City Menu
White Restaurant offers more than just white beehoon. In fact, the menu is so extensive that it includes a page listing the ten most popular dishes.

Below are screenshots of pages from the digital menu.

The Food

We ordered the Seafood White Bee Hoon ($8.50 for a small portion), along with a side of Crispy Squid & Prawn Cake ($6.50).
Although we have had the white beehoon many times it before, we still looked forward to it. The beehoon was mild in flavour, with egg, prawns, squid and even scallops. To us, it would be the definition of comfort food. We liked it with a squeeze of lime and a bit of chilli. The portion was generous. It could be shared between two people with average appetites. Prices have gone up slightly, but it still feels reasonably priced.

The Crispy Squid & Prawn Cake had a golden-brown, crunchy batter. Inside, the seafood cake was firm and springy, with a natural sweetness. It was enjoyable on its own, but the mayonnaise sauce added extra richness.

The Seafood Mee Goreng ($8.90) was essentially fried yellow noodles with the same ingredients as the white bee hoon. It was Chinese restaurant-style mee goreng with a mildly spicy, sweet-savoury sauce. It was another comforting dish that was easy on the palate.

Our simple meal at White Restaurant Suntec City ended on a sweet note with a serving of yam paste ($5.20), or orh nee. The steamed yam dessert was creamy and sweet, but not too sweet. Topped with coconut milk and lotus seeds, it had added layers of flavour and texture, making a good dessert even better.

Good Comfort Food
It is nice to enjoy the original Sembawang White Bee Hoon and a good variety of other dishes in air-conditioned comfort. With several convenient locations across Singapore, White Restaurant, with its good comfort food, is an easy choice when we are hungry and need to decide quickly where to eat.
