Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice JEM – A Simple Tze Char Lunch

Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice JEM had been renovated and now looks nicer and more polished than our last visit a few years ago. There are lots of food options in the JEM / Westgate shopping malls. This Singapore outlet of the popular chicken rice from Thailand is one of our favourites for a quick and affordable tze char lunch.

Michelin Bib Gourmand Chicken Rice at JEM

The new Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice restaurant at JEM had been transformed from a coffee shop-like (see photos on our 2022 visit) to a bistro-like diner.

A large lighted display highlights the restaurant’s Michelin credentials. The lighting has been softened while the warm colour temperature combines with the retro floor tiles to give a cosy feel. The empty tables you see in these pictures soon filled up during lunch time on a weekday.

Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice JEM menu

Here are pictures of some sample pages from the Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice JEM menu. It seemed that the menu had been trimmed down since our 2022 visit. For this visit we selected the basil chicken with kai lan ($9.90), onion omelette ($7.90) and cashew chicken ($9.90).

Lunch at JEM

We tend to order the same dishes when we make return visits to restaurants. We thought the bitter melon chicken soup and beef brisket with radish claypot were very good. But sadly these items were no longer on the menu. Our dishes on this visit were more simple.

The onion omelette (picture above) was large and fluffy. We were glad that this perennial favourite of ours was still available and at the same price as last time. Basil chicken with kai lan (picture below) had small amounts of minced chicken but the basil taste still made it a good dish to be eaten with plain steamed rice.

Another dish that goes well with rice was the cashew chicken. This probably had more onions and capsicum than chicken. But the flavours all combined to make every scoop taste nice. With the occasional scrunch of cashew nuts adding to the texture and flavour. Not as enjoyable as our last visit, this was nevertheless a satisfying tze char style lunch for two costing less than $40.
