Komekou Kioicho Modern Izakaya in Akasaka Tokyo

Komekou Kioicho Japanese Izakaya  (米幸) located on the second floor of the Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho complex. With a contemporary decor, English menus, this was an easy casual Japanese diner for tourists like us who are not conversant in the Japanese language.

Izakaya Near Akasaka-Mitsuke Station

There are many food places in the area near the Akasaka Mitsuke Metro Station, Tokyo. We wrote about some traditional izakayas we had visited in the area many years ago (Eat & Play in Tokyo Part 1 – Akasaka, Shinjuku, Ginza and Ochanomizu).

Since then there had been changes to this area. The most notable being the opening of Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho, a large new commercial complex in recent years. This complex houses a number of new dining options. We had recently written about our visit to a hand-made soba restaurant there. Komekou Kioicho izakaya is located close to it.

Komekou Kioicho Izakaya Menu

Here are pictures of some pages from the izakaya menu. The range of food is not wide, but contains the izakaya classics such as sushi, tempura, fish dishes, rice and side dishes and of course Japanese sake and beer.

Food and Drinks Izakaya at Akasaka Mitsuke Station

Our small makan at Komekou Kioicho izakaya with small servings of boiled vegetables (550 yen each). A simple and easy appetiser.

Sashimi and tofu were next. Japanese sake also started flowing. We had two servings of different types of sake during this meal. The pieces of sashimi on platter (1,760 yen) were smaller than we anticipated but very fresh. Winning the best value for money dish was the deep-fried tofu in a light broth (715 yen)

Another dish that was perfect with sake was the grilled teriyaki chicken ($990 yen). With a bit of sweet sauce and a small salad this would be a complete meal with rice.

Overall, this was a nice simple light meal at a modern izakaya in a nice part of Tokyo. Nothing in particular was exceptionally good at this low key izakaya. It may not have the atmosphere of a traditional izakaya, but there are times where we appreciate some modern conveniences. This is one reason we like Tokyo – ready availability of nice Japanese food at reasonable quality and price.
