Fujin Tree 353 Cafe Taipei and Jiu Yang chives dumpling shop ( 仰韮菜盒專賣店) were two casual food places we visited while exploring the interesting Fujin Street (富錦街) area in the Songshan district of Taipei.

Taipei Fujin Street Cafes
The Fujin Street neighbourhood includes the shops and restaurants along the approximately 900 metre street as well as the narrow lanes that criss cross the area. Old buildings (some wholly, some partly) had been converted to host a mix of trendy boutiques, hipster cafes and lifestyle/furniture stores. From our research, it seems to be an area in Taipei that is still relatively under-discovered. We found that to be quite accurate and there were certainly no crowds when we visited on a weekend. In contrast, for example, we found Chifeng Street to be much more developed and very crowded.

There are numerous shops and cafes at Fujin Street. I think we only came across a fraction of them on our short visit. Here are a couple that we would love to check out on a future visit. The Antipodean (picture above) is a modern cafe on the ground floor of an old residential building. Green Bakery (picture below) is in a small house that has different cosy vibes.

We had a coffee break at Fujin Tree 353 Cafe as it seemed to have a good mix of being modern and cosy at the same time. We also felt that the cafe had the right level of business with a nice buzz of activities but still had a few empty tables available. The atmosphere felt right when we walked in.

The cafe is larger than it looks from the outside. The dining area stretches deep inwards and the food prep area is spacious.

Fujin Tree 353 Cafe Menu
Here are pictures of some parts of the Fujin Tree 353 coffee menu as well as the toast and dessert menu.

This is a place for coffee and desserts. We ordered two types of coffee – cappuccino (NT$140) and a more fancy pour over coffee – Baby Lucy Geisha from Ethiopia (NT$250) with a Basque cheese cake (NT$180).

These are pictures of our Baby Lucy Geisha coffee and cappuccino. The former was light and fruity while the latter was a smooth creamy cappuccino. Both good in their own ways. The Basque cheesecake was rich and robust in flavour. We thought it was a good coffee break.

The cafe also sells beans and other merchandise. Service was polite and friendly. This is a place we would certainly visit again.

Fujin Street Jiu Yang Chive Dumplings 韮仰韮菜盒專賣店

We came across this small and adorable shop near the Fujin Tree 353 Cafe. The Jiu Yang 韮仰 store sells only one food item – chive dumplings and is run by a single young lady. To navigate here it may be easier to find its larger next door neighbour known as Home Kitchen.

The Jiu Yang chive dumplings shop sells takeaway dumplings only. The shop is tiny and the young lady behind the counter stuffs the dumplings and pan-fries them over an electric stove.

The chive dumpling is the only food item on the menu, NT$55 each. Tea is available as a drink.

We bought one to try . The stuffing in the dumpling was generous. A lot of chives were stuffed within the thin dumpling skin. Some folks may not find chives appealing. Those who do will certainly be happy that the fragrance of this vegetable was strong and fresh. Our only issue with it was that it should be cooked softer. Some parts of the chives were still quite firm in texture. Other than that, we found the stall to be extremely charming – selling only one type of food and one drink is very focused and commendable.
