Centro Shaw Lido is a stunning new multi-concept dining facility at the popular Lido Shaw theatre at the junction of Orchard Road and Scotts Road. The elegant dining hall, cocktail bar, trendy espresso bar and in-theatre dining look like concepts that will make watching movies at the cinema great again!

Where is Centro Shaw Lido
Centro Shaw Lido is located onย Level 5 ofย Shaw Houseย along Orchard Road. This is also where the Shaw Lido theatres are located. Isetan Scotts is their neighbour on Levels B1 to 4. It has been a while since we were last at Lido. I believe the Centro space used to be occupied by a bunch of retail and fast food outlets. Now the dining options available at the Lido theatre are mainly Centro Lido and the McDonalds next to it. Access to Centro Shaw can be made via lifts or the scenic route via a set of long escalators (first section from ground floor outside Isetan to third floor and a second section from L3 to L5).

Lumiere Grand Hall and In Theatre Dining
The reception space outside the theatre is now spacious and almost luxurious. According to a sign, there is a Centro cocktail bar on the 6th floor where the Shaw Theatresโ higher-end theatres – Premiere and Lumiere Grand hallsย are located. The more exclusive Premiere hall has yet to open. Just below that is the Lumiere Grand hall that has sofa-style Classic seats and 36 Recliners. According to a Straits Times article, ticket prices for the Classic seats range from $19 to $24, while Recliner seat tickets will cost from $25 to $30. You can also see pictures of the Lumiere Grand hall in the article.

It seems that in-theatre dining is available at Shaw Theatresโ premium premiere halls. The food and beverage options from the in-theatre menu are apparently all served at your seat “while you sit back and get lost in the movie”. This is available only at Shaw Theatres premiere halls at Lido and Jem.
Centro Shaw Lido Restaurant

We decided to have lunch at the new Centro Lido restaurant. It is a beautiful place with bright contemporary decor and an ambience similar to a posh hotel lobby restaurant.

The large windows let in lots of natural light and provide a bird’s eye view of the Orchard Road streetscape.

Lido Espresso & Matcha Bar

Right next to the restaurant is a separate Espresso & Matcha Bar.

Here are pictures of the Centro Lido restaurant menu.

We decided to try the Centro all day set menu that cost $28+ and $38+ for 2 and 3 courses respectively.

Set Lunch at Centro Lido Restaurant
Starters
We tried all three starters available on the set menu.

The taro and potato fritters with green papaya salad (picture above) was light and fresh. We could eat a lot of these as a snack. It was very nice but we would not get it if we were very hungry. The other deep fried starter was salt & pepper calamari with homemade aioli (picture below). This was a familiar fried squid dish. The batter was well executed – light and non-oily but the squid was quite chewy.

Italian-style meatballs with slow-cooked tomato sauce (picture below) was the most substantial starter. With its authentic Italian restaurant flavour, this was our favourite starter at Centro Lido.

Main Courses
Our main courses were Classic Fish & Chips, Parmesan & Caper Chicken Schnitzel, Thai Pepper Berry Pasta and Ambassadorโs Salad.

Both these deep-fried dishes were quite nice but we liked the fish and chips better than the chicken schnitzel (picture below). We thought the chicken was rather dry which might have been caused by the thinness of the meat.

The best dish of the day was the pasta which won us over with the just right texture of the pasta and the delicious Thai style sauce. For those who prefer a healthy dish the Ambassador’s salad was good as well.

Desserts and Coffee
Two desserts were on the set menu – Warm Double Baked Chocolate & Halva Cake and Lemon Posset Pudding. We had half-expected the desserts to be small items, designed as “token” desserts to convert a two-course meal to a three-course one. We were pleasantly surprised to see full sized desserts served.

The rich taste of the chocolate cake was very good while the pudding provided contrast with a lighter taste. Since the regular prices of these on the a la carte menu were $14 and $12 respectively, the chocolate cake also works out as a value for money choice.

Coffee was not part of the set meal but we were tempted by the description on the menu which stated that they serve Toby’s Estate coffee. We have not been to Toby’s Estate cafe in Robertson Quay recently but know that their coffee is very good. This was indeed the case. The coffee worked very well with the desserts to round up a nice meal at the new Centro Shaw Lido restaurant. Service at the restaurant was also good – friendly and efficient.
