Many dining spots in Tiong Bahru have come and gone over the years. Yet, Little Elephant SG Thai Bistro on Eng Hoon Street is still going strong. Its secret formula? We think it is a simple one – it serves good food at affordable prices. That keeps regular customers coming back.

Rustic Charm

Little Elephant SG Thai Bistro in Tiong Bahru sits on the ground floor of an iconic Art Deco apartment block. It is located next to the famous Tiong Bahru Bakery, separated by just a passageway.

The restaurant has the unpretentious, relaxed charm of an eatery in a rustic Thai neighborhood. The interior design uses weathered textures and authentic Thai accents. Classic retro telephone sets mounted against distressed timber panels, and vintage framed prints add a nostalgic touch.

Marble-top tables, metal chairs and hanging lamps fill the space. Ceiling fans keep the indoor section cool, while there is al-fresco seating with wooden tables out in the walkway. Patrons can enjoy an experience reminiscent of dining in a Bangkok soi.

Menu of Little Elephant
The menu of Little Elephant is rather extensive covering the usual Thai staples. There are sections for curries, seafood, meat, vegetarian dishes and one dish meals. Below are a few screenshots from their digital menu.

Our Simple Thai Meal
The Thai-style Minced Pork Omelette ($8.90) arrived as a large, golden disc. It featured crisp, ruffled edges and a light, fluffy centre. Though simple, the dish was thoroughly delectable.

The Stir-fried Mixed Vegetables ($9.90) was a homely dish of cauliflower, carrots, baby corn, and leafy greens. The vegetables were tossed in a savoury mushroom sauce. It was a simple, wholesome dish that paired very well with steamed rice.

Grilled Pork Skewers or Moo Ping ($9.90) were three thick pork patties on bamboo skewers with shredded cabbage on the side. The meat was tendered and flavourful. The gentle spices enhanced the smoky aroma.

The Mango Sticky Rice ($8.90) was the standout dish of the meal. Butterfly pea flowers stained the glutinous rice a rich shade of blue. The crispy mung beans topping added a pleasant contrast in texture. Slices of ripe, sweet yellow mango went very well with the soft chewy rice. Furthermore, a drizzle of coconut milk balanced the sweetness and added depth to the flavour profile We really enjoyed this Thai classic dish at Little Elephant.
