Hillion Mall Food Places and Restaurants in Bukit Panjang

Hillion Mall is a new shopping mall in Bukit Panjang in the West of Singapore.  Together with the Hillion Residences condominium that sits on top of the mall, the project is integrated with the Bukit Panjang bus interchange and LRT and MRT stations. According to the website of Sim Lian Group who is the developer of the project, the mall has 240,000 sq ft of gross floor area and more than 100 retail shops spread over 4 levels.   We don’t like to shop but we love to eat, so what we were really interested in is what to eat at Hillion Mall.  We took a quick tour and compiled a list of the Hillion Mall Food Places and Restaurants.  This is not a complete list as there could be some that we missed out – we suggest you refer to the official tenant directory at Hillion Mall for a full list of shops and restaurants.

Set Lunch at Acqua e Farina Singapore

Today, we take you with us to our set lunch at Acqua e Farina Singapore, the Italian restaurant at Rail Mall in Upper Bukit Timah.  This restaurant was formerly known as Galbiati Gourmet Deli until late last year.  ” Acqua e Farina” means water and flour in Italian – essential ingredients which go into making pizza and pasta.  Always popular with folks working in this part of town because of the free parking available, Rail Mall now gets even more human traffic with the opening of the new Hillview Station on the Downtown Line which is a 5 minute walk away.

Lunch at New Ubin Seafood Hillview Avenue

We finally got the chance to try the restaurant that many people have talked about – the New Ubin Seafood Hillview Avenue. They had recently moved to their new location in the canteen of Lam Soon Industrial Building from their previous location at Sin Min Industrial Estate. From one industrial estate to another, but the new Hillview location is more convenient for us.  We dropped by for lunch at this zi char restaurant which is recognised in the Bib Gourmand list of Singapore’s Michelin Guide 2016.

Kaya and Otah Toast at Toast Box Rail Mall

Toast Box Rail Mall - 10

Toast Box Rail Mall is a pleasant-looking coffee shop along Upper Bukit Timah Road. Toast Box is a local style coffee shop specialising in freshly toasted bread and their blend of Nanyang coffee. It has many branches all over Singapore and most of us have probably visited one of their outlets at some point in time. We stopped by the Toast Box Rail Mall outlet recently for a simple coffee break.

Teck Kee Chicken Rice at Rail Mall, Upper Bukit Timah

Teck Kee Chicken Rice

Teck Kee Chicken Rice Rail Mall - 1

Rail Mall is not a typical mall in Singapore. It is a row of single storey shophouses along Upper Bukit Timah that has shops, restaurants, a medical clinic, a bank, some children’s education facilities and Cold Storage.  It was not a place you would think of going to unless you were living or working nearby. But now that the MRT Downtown Line is in operation, the Hillview MRT Station is just a stone’s throw away. Rail Mall has become a dining destination for more people. We start our eating adventures at Rail Mail with a takeaway lunch of Teck Kee Chicken Rice.

What wine to go with curry? How about a crisp, zesty white from Portugal

Casal Mendes white wine and curry1

We bought some Indian food takeaway from Curry Gardenn at HillV2 the other day and popped into the nearby wine shop, the  Wine Connection,  to see what interesting wines they had to offer.  Our query, “which wine to go with curry”,  elicited several possibilities. In the end, we had to make a decision.  There were a lot of reasonably priced wines recommended, all in their wooden crates, all looking very interesting.  What do you do when confronted with so many choices, none of which you are familiar with?
