Breakfast at PS.Cafe By the Sea

It is yet another PS.Cafe but one that is rather unique. Surprisingly, for the popular homegrown cafe chain which started in 1999, the new PS.Cafe in East Coast Park is their first outlet in the East. Although PS.Cafe at One Fullerton is also on the waterfront, PS.Cafe By the Sea is different because of its location in a park facing the sea and its beachfront cafe vibe. The menu showcases seafood and it has dishes exclusive to the outlet. For the first time, PS.Cafe has a Junior Menu. PS.Cafe By the Sea is a rather special place by the beach and is good for power breakfasts, lazy weekend brunches or romantic date nights.

Cyclist Park, East Coast Park

The new PS.Cafe in East Coast Park is located in the Cyclist Park in Area D of East Coast Park, where the old chalets used to be. The cafe occupies a one storey standalone structure. It has an alfresco dining area with unobstructed views of the sea.

The interior design of PS.Cafe By the Sea has the beach house theme with white walls and timber decking. PS.Cafes’ trademark diagonally-hung magazines were present. There were no lush foliage in glass vases or extravagant floral arrangements in the air-conditioned dining hall. They were not necessary as the full height glass panels allow diners a good view of the verdant foliage surrounding the cafe.

Breakfast at PS.Cafe By the Sea

We went to the new cafe in East Park for breakfast and ordered the Almond & Chia Seed Granola ($12) and Egg & Bacon Bunwich ($10). Cappuccino was $6.50 each. Service charge and GST would be added to the bill.

The service was friendly and efficient. Water was served while we waited for the food and our glasses were constantly topped up during the meal. The wait for the food was fairly short.

The Almond & Chia Seed Granola was beautifully presented in a small glass bowl. There were fruits and coconut flesh in the mix. It had plenty of crunch and flavour. It was a delightful refreshing breakfast dish.

The Egg & Bacon Bunwich was like a hamburger without the beef patty. It was not bad but nothing to write home about. In fact, it is something even untalented folks like us can probably make at home.

The cappuccino was good; definitely not something we can make at home.

Relaxed Seaside Haven

When we were at PS.Cafe East Coast Park for breakfast on a weekday morning, the place was almost completely filled up. There were mothers who had sent their kids off to school, fitness buffs after their morning exercise, old couples in between their walks, executives before going to the office and a whole lot of other Singaporeans who did not need to go to work at around 10 am on a weekday. PS.Cafe By the Sea appeals to all sorts of people and it is easy to understand its popularity. It serves good coffee, has friendly welcoming staff and has a unique location with a good view of the park and the sea. Eating there is like eating in a waterfront restaurant while on a beach resort holiday. If we have the time and money, you would find us having breakfast at the relaxed seaside haven in East Coast Park very often.
