MOS Cafe at Raffles City is MOS Burger’s new flagship cafe. It is the first MOS Cafe in Singapore and its menu offers much more than just burgers and coffee. The trend may have started with McCafe as more and more established casual dining chains are offering gourmet coffee and more diverse options. KFC Coffee is a recent entrant and now we have MOS Cafe. Its menu includes gourmet green tea and coffee and items like curry rice bowl, tortilla salad, soup, chicken nuggets, parfaits and other desserts. With a pleasant decor and neat layout, MOS Cafe at Raffles City is a nice spot for a good simple meal or for a tea break in between shopping.
The interior of MOS Cafe is reasonably spacious and uses wood and dining chairs in soothing colours to create a comfortable and easy going space. A variety of seating styles make uses of the corners and nooks created by the store’s irregular floor plan – maximizing seating capacity while allowing some semblance of private space for parties of varying sizes.
You queue to place your order at the counter and make payment. Drinks will be handed over to you at the counter and other items will be served to your table. A number tag will be given for you to place on your table so that the server can identify you.
We ordered a Wagyu Demi-glace Rice Bowl ($6.90) and the traditional MOS Burger ($3.55). We also ordered a Matcha Mini-Parfait ($3.95).
The “rice bowl” actually came in a plate and looked quite good. A good portion of rice was topped with a nice beef burger patty with rich brown sauce. Egg and salad added colour to the dish and also helped to ensure that the dish could be a complete balanced meal. The sauce was well done and flavourful. The simple “rice bowl” of MOS Cafe was as good as some hamburger steak in other Japanese restaurants we had tried.
The traditional MOS Burger was as we have remembered it – saucy and tasty.
The Mini-Parfait did not look very exciting and the taste was quite ordinary. It came in a sensible portion size – about just right for one person. It was not too sweet and the various elements blended well together; but it would not be something one would crave for.
On the whole, we quite like the new MOS Cafe at Raffles City. The staff are courteous and efficient. The space is clean and comfortable. You can get quite a good simple meal there. If you avoid the peak lunch hours, it can also be a nice relaxing spot for cakes, desserts and coffee. It may not be hip but we think that MOS Cafe is a very good alternative to the contemporary cafes where the prices are likely to be much higher.
