Tomi Sushi Katong V

Tomi Sushi Katong V is a cosy Japanese restaurant serving Niigata cuisine. Notwithstanding its name, the restaurant offers much more than just sushi. Tempura, sashimi, grilled fish, hot pots, soba and udon are among the many items on its menu.

Located on the second level of Katong Village Mall, Tomi Sushi Katong V is set up to look like a small restaurant in Japan. There is a sushi bar, booth seats, regular dining tables and even a private room. Tomi Sushi Katong V is one of the 4 Tomi Sushi outlets in Singapore (see our post Tomi Sushi @ Millenia Walk, almost like being in Japan).

Tomi Sushi Katong has various set meals such as Shun no Omakase ($75), Sashimi Set ($35), Gindara Set ($28) and Sashi Set Lunch ($25).

We visited Tomi Sushi Katong V for dinner recently and ordered from the a la carte menu a Yu Tofu Small Hotpot ($10), Tempura Moriawase ($18) and Chicken Karaage ($15). We also ordered white rice ($3 per bowl) and green tea was complimentary. GST and service charge would be added to the bill.

The Yu Tofu Small Hotpot was severed with a mini stove brought to the table so that the broth would be kept boiling hot. It was a simple dish which went well with the rice and was especially enjoyable when the tofu and vegetables were eaten with the dipping sauce provided.

The tempura and fried chicken were of the standard which we would expect in good Japanese restaurants. Both the dishes were well cooked and nicely presented. The tempura batter was light and not too oily. The chicken karage had a crisp texture on the outside and was tender on the inside.

It was a simple meal but very enjoyable. The place was not big but we did not feel that it was cramped. The chefs and staff were friendly and engaging. The quality of the food was good and the prices were reasonable. We like Tomi Sushi Katong V and it would seem that many others like it too. It would be advisable to make a reservation if you are thinking of dining there.
