Frieda Restaurant – new German restaurant in Capitol Kempinski Singapore

Frieda is a new German restaurant in Capitol Piazza. The casual restaurant of The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore has a modern look with a cosy atmosphere. The rather limited food menu features typical German fare but Frieda also has a good range of German liquors and German beer on tap.

Frieda Singapore is located on the ground level of Capitol Piazza in the section called The Gallery. The botanical-themed establishment has a few different sections on both sides of a corridor . The Daybar and Frieda Garden are on one side.

Frieda Restaurant is on the other side of the corridor and has the feel of a well appointed traditional German restaurant. There is a cozy dining space on the mezzanine terrace.

Frieda’s Menu

The food menu of Frieda Restaurant is a short and straightforward affair. There are a few mains, which include Wiener schnitzel, meatloaf and sausages. Below is a picture of the menu board of Frieda Restaurant. There is an online menu on the restaurant’s webpage (link below).

Frieda’s Weekend Set Meal

We ordered the set meal. A basket of warm sourdough bread was served as soon as our order had been taken. Water was also offered and our cups were constantly refilled.

The first course was potato leek soup. It was topped by sourdough croutons and crispy deep fried cabbage and drizzled with leek oil. Frieda’s Potato Leek Soup was a very good version of the classic soup with smooth and creamy texture and fresh taste. It looked delicious and the nice combination of flavours and the contrasting textures provided by the toppings made the dish a very palatable dish.

The main course was the German classic dish of sausage, mashed potato and sauerkraut. It did not look very exciting and the sausage was as we would expect – good quality but nothing exceptional in terms of taste. The tender sauerkraut only had slight acidity and was a perfect foil for the meaty sausage. The surprise of the dish was the plain mashed potato. It was velvety smooth and lightly flavoured and must be one of the most delightful version of mashed potato we have had for a while.

The dessert was apple fritters with a small scoop of ice cream. The apple fritters looked like plain doughnuts coated with cinnamon sugar. The
cakey batter was thin and crisp. Inside was warm, sweet apple pieces. It was a delectable dessert – not too sweet and not too heavy.

Good Food Great Service

We enjoyed our meal at Frieda Restaurant of The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore. The set meal did not seem like much but we felt like we had a good healthy but hearty meal. The food was good and the staff was friendly and provided great service throughout. This German restaurant is in a very pleasant location with interesting nooks and corners. It can be quite a romantic spot in the evening. If you like the food on its menu, Frieda would be a wonderful place to have a good affordable meal.
