Lunch at Elemen Classic Great World City, new meatless restaurant

Elemen Classic Great World City is one of a series of new restaurants that have opened in Great World City. This popular shopping mall off River Valley Road has been undergoing a process of major renovations. From what we see, the transformation is now getting closer to completion and we can see the new modern look taking shape. The ground floor has seen many new restaurants setting up. Meatless restaurant, Element Classic is one of them. We were there for lunch recently.

According to their website, “Elemen is a dining concept focused on a modern interpretation of natural and meatless cuisine”. Elemen Classic Great World City is one of several restaurants in the Elemen group of restaurants. They have outlets in Millenia Walk and Harbourfront and a new one opening in Paya Lebar Quarter. We were told that the “Classic” label indicates a more upmarket version of the regular Elemen restaurant. For example, truffle flavours are found in more dishes in this restaurant.

Here are pictures of some pages from the Elemen Classic Menu. In addition to the a la carte menu, there are a few set course menus. We thought that the $28.80++ 6 course menu looked interesting and decided to try it.

Our meal began with a “classic starter” as well as truffle bread sticks with a blueberry yogurt sauce. We liked the breadsticks and the dip. The truffle flavour was subtle and not over-powering. We were less enthusiastic about the three-piece starter, especially the sour tomato.

Next there was a choice of salad or soup. Having ordered two set courses, we decided to try one of each, the red quinoa salad and the wild mushroom soup with truffle oil. The salad was quite average. The mushroom was a better choice. The flavour of mushroom always combine well with truffle and this was indeed the case at Elemen Classic.

For main courses, we had the stir fried angel hair pasta in black truffle sauce and the tempura tofu and avocado roll. We were not impressed with either one. The pasta was soft and almost soggy. The rice of the avocado roll was mushy with the individual grains of rice was hardly discernible. On the positive side, the presentation of the rolls was very well done.

Our desserts were chocolate lava cake with gelato and purple rice porridge with coconut ice cream. The desserts were much better than the preceding dishes. The chocolate lava was the best dish of the day. The cake was moist and had a perfectly gooey core.

For our choice of beverages we selected the sweet potato latte and the pink salt coffee. Both were quite nice. Although not outstanding, they are worth trying as they are different from the run of the mill hot beverages.

Overall, it was an interesting lunch but with some hits and misses. Service was also inconsistent, perhaps because it was a new restaurant. We had lunch before at Elemen Harbourfront which was a positive experience. By comparison, our meal at Elemen Classic Great World City fell short of our expectations.

  1. I will recommend this restr. I have been a long time vegetarian and I am sensitive to processed food. After having a meal here, I find the ingredients they use are very fresh and good and it energised me. Highly recommended.

Leave a comment. It will mean a great deal to us.
