Makko Teck Neo Metropolis - new Peranakan restaurant in Buona Vista

Makko Teck Neo Metropolis is a new Peranakan restaurant that opened in late June 2019 at the Metropolis Building in the One North precinct in Buona Vista. It is a branch of a little known restaurant that has its main branch at Block 35 Telok Blangah Rise, Singapore.

The Metropolis is one of the most impressive office buildings in Singapore that is outside the CBD. It houses famous tenants such as Proctor & Gamble Singapore and Central Depository (CDP), Singapore Exchange. On the lower floors there are some f & b outlets and one of the newest tenant there is Makko Teck Neo Metropolis. It is very popular with the office workers and can get very crowded at lunch hours. If you are planning to go, is best to get a seat before 11:45 am.

Makko Teck Neo (Makko is Peranakan for aunty) started by baking and selling pineapple tarts to friends during CNY. As business grew, the Telok Blangah restaurant was opened in 2008 and a take-away kiosk started in Tangs in 2017. The new outlet at Metropolis is a simply furnished restaurant on the ground floor. Quite a wide range of ready-made kuehs are also available for sale.

Makko Teck Neo Metropolis Menu

The Makko Teck Neo food menu is not very extensive, but is adequate for us as it contains most of the Peranakan dishes that we are familiar with. Here are pictures of the menu. We ordered an assortment of dishes. The ayam buah keluak was unfortunately not available on that day.

The dishes at Mako Teck Neo were all generally very good. The portions (apart from the ngoh hiang) were also larger than we expected. The best items and we would consider them the must try dishes were the nyonya ngoh hiang ($11.90), the kueh pie tee ($9.90) and dry mee siam ($5.80). We also tried the Nyonya chap chye ($14.90) tahu goreng ($6.80). They were both good but not as memorable as the other ones. Both were served in very big portions.

Overall, we are glad that Makko Teck Neo Metropolis has opened. A good Peranakan restaurant is always welcome in the Buona Vista / Ghim Moh neighbourhood.
