Tom’s City Zoom Mee Pok Tar @ Ghim Moh Market and Food Centre was what I ended up eating at my recent visit to this small but interesting hawker centre in Buona Vista. With two Michelin Bib Gourmand stalls and a few other popular stalls here, it is easy to spot the hot favourites by the length of queues.
Tom’s City Zoom is not one of those with the long queues. But it seems to have a loyal following, expect a short queue most of the time. It is helmed by a young man whose service was friendly and fast. I was able to get to order my food within 10 minutes.
Tom’s City Zoom Mee Pok Tar with Vinegar and Chilli
Although the name of the stall is Tom’s City Zoom Mee Pok Tar, the usual choices of noodles are available. You can have kway teow soup if that’s your preference. I decided to have the standard $3.50 mee pok tar. It was attractively presented with quite a bit of toppings on the noodles. Two fishballs and some mince pork float on the small bowl of soup.
I am glad to say that it was a satisfying mee pok tar. The noodles were nice in texture. They were not as crunchy or “q” as I would have liked but was certainly above average. The seasoning with chilli and vinegar was well-balanced. The best part was the fish cake – cut into pieces and spread over top of the noodles. They were tasty and had a great texture. I notice a couple of patrons before me adding whole pieces ($1.40 each) to their noodles.
Overall, I was impressed by Tom’s City Zoom Mee Pok Tar @ Ghim Moh Market. It is a stall I would go out of my way to try if I am in the mood for mee pok.
