Don Don Donki The Central Clarke Quay is the sixth Singapore outlet of the supermarket that refers to itself as the “Japan Discount King”. The supermarket itself does not need any introduction. What is more interesting about this Don Donki outlet near the Singapore River are the eateries that it has incorporated into the retail experience. The restaurants and food outlets at B1 The Central bring additional interest to this 24 hour supermarket. The restaurants however are not open 24 hours, so do note their respective operating hours.
Teppanyaki
Located right next to the entrance to the Don Don Donki The Central Clarke Quay is a Teppanyaki restaurant. Their set meals range from $13.90 to $36.90. Open 1130 – 1430; 1800 – 2100 hrs
Drink Drunk Donki !
Don Don Donki operates a bar at the supermarket. It seems like an interesting place to grab a drink or two, especially during “Drunki Hours” from 2.30pm to 7.30pm.
Delicatessen Cooked Food
The Delicatessen is one of the departments in Don Don Donki. Here some types of ready-to-eat cooked food is available for sale. Dining tables and chairs are available for shoppers to enjoy the food here. It looks like a canteen.
Some of the food on display that we found interesting were the onigiri (rice balls wrapped in seaweed), teriyaki salmon head ($7.90) and omu rice set ($7.50).
Specialist Japanese Restaurants at Don Don Donki The Central
Man Man Unagi Restaurant
Two specialist Japanese restaurants come immediately after we took the escalator down to Don Don Donki at Basement 1. Man Man Unagi restaurant caused a stir when it first opened in Singapore. Long queues were the norm at the first outlet at Keong Saik Road. They have since opened other branches at DUO Galleria and this one at The Central.
Tendon Kohaku
Popular tendon restaurant Tendon Kohaku has also set up next to Man Man. We have tried their rice bowls topped with tempura at the Suntec City outlet and found them to be very good.
Don Don Donki The Central FOOD COURT
At the DDD outlet at Orchard Road, there is a food hall known as Hokkaido Marche Gourmet Hall. At DDD The Central, there is the Food Court. The simple dining area is surrounded by food stalls offering different types of Japanese food. They include Shiroi Tonkatsu, Hokkaido Melt (dessert), Pasta Holic (Japanese style pasta), Doraya (tuna rice bowls), Kanda Soba (dry ramen with 62 ingredients), Sugimoto Bonta (gyudon – beef bowls),
Don Don Donki The Central Supermarket
The Don Don Donki The Central supermarket has the usual range of Japanese produce. We like the fresh fruits, meat and seafood sections. This will be a good place to source for food for Chinese new year. The sukiyaki / shabu shabu pork or beef will be useful for the steamboat dinner. The unusual seafood items will add an extra dimension to that steamboat pot.
Sweet potatoes from Japan are always popular in Singapore. We always see a queue for them at the Orchard outlet. At DD Donki The Central, there is a kiosk dedicated to sweet potatoes. In addition to the baked sweet potatoes, the kiosk also serves other snacks made from them. It appears from a sign that the price for sweet potatoes has been reduced!
