Tomi Sushi Takeaway

Tomi Sushi originates from the Niigata Prefecture of Japan. In Singapore it has outlets in Millenia Walk, Novena Square (Velocity) and Katong V. Tommy’s Sake Bar in Frasers Tower is part of the group. In keeping up with the times, Tomi Sushi has a new Takeaway Menu.

Tomi Sushi Katong V

Founded in Niigata in 1954, Tomi Sushi prides itself in serving good food with quality ingredients. All its outlets still use Niigata Koshihikari rice and sea salt from the Sea of Japan. Fresh fish are imported regularly from Japan including from Niigata local fish market. Even the vinegar they use is secured from a factory that makes vinegar from the traditional process of making Japanese sake from scratch. We had dined in Tomi Sushi on a number of occasions (see our posts Tomi Sushi @ Millenia Walk, almost like being in Japan and Tomi Sushi Katong V). We were impressed by the quality of its food.

Tomi Sushi Takeaway Menu

The range of food on Tomi Sushi’s menu is quite extensive. Besides set meals there is a wide variety of a la carte dishes. You can see Tomi Sushi’s lunch menu and grand menu on it website.

Tomi Sushi Takeaway Menu offers sushi, rice bowls, bento sets and a few side dishes. Below are pictures of the Tomi Sushi Katong V Takeaway Menu.

Tomi Sushi Bento

We ordered Yakiniku Bento ($16) and Saba Shio Bento ($12) from Tomi Sushi Katong V.

Tomi Sushi Bento

We noticed immediately the attention to detail and the balance of the ingredients in the bento boxes. Each box was designed to be a complete meal with a variety of colours, tastes, textures and food groups. The chopsticks given were proper Japanese wooden chopsticks with pointy ends.

Yakiniku Bento

The Yakiniku Bento comprised pork slices, salad, rice and fruits. The mixed salad was drizzled with a nice dressing and was refreshing. The pork was cooked with onions and yakiniku sauce. It had a mix of savoury and sweet flavous and went very well with the plain steamed rice.

Yakiniku Bento

The Saba Shio Bento was like the Yakiniku Bento except that the main item was grilled mackerel instead of pork. It was quite a large fleshy piece of fish. The fish was well cooked and rich in taste. It would not be something to be eaten in a hurry because it had lots of fine fish bones.

Tempura Don

We also had a Tempura Don ($15).

Tempura Don

The tempura rice bowl might not look it but it was a rather substantial meal. There were 3 large prawns, mushrooms, vegetables and sweet potato sitting on a bed of rice. The tempura batter remained crispy even after the journey from the restaurant home. The prawns were plumb and sweet. The tempura don was good. It would have been even more enjoyable if some dipping sauce had been provided in a separate container.

Good Value Meal

The Tomi Sushi Takeaway Menu offers good value Japanese meals. For above average quality Japanese food, the takeaway items are very reasonably priced.
