Wah Lok Takeaway Dim Sum Set

Carlton Hotel offers a selection of takeaway favourites from Wah Lok,
​Café Mosaic and Tuxedo. In normal circumstances, it is difficult to get a table at Wah Lok Cantonese Restaurant, especially on weekends. We were thus very happy that the special Wah Lok Takeaway Dim Sum Set allowed us to enjoy the legendary dim sum from the comfort of home.

Carlton Takeaway & Delivery

Carlton Hotel has a special takeaway menu (link below) offering set meals, dim sum and Cantonese dishes from Wah Lok; sandwiches, pasta and various Western and local dishes from Café Mosaic; and cakes, pastries and coffee from Tuxedo.

Islandwide delivery is available, free with a minimum spend of $180. Delivery charges are as follows:
• $12 for orders below $70
• $8 for orders $70 and above

Self-collection is at Carlton Hotel main entrance via Bras Basah Road. For those who drive, pick up is possible without leaving the car.

Wah Lok Takeaway Dim Sum Set

There are several Wah Lok Takeaway Dim Sum Sets on the menu. We opted for 午市点心餐 Dim Sum Set A ($51.35). Ordering and pick up from the Cartlton Hotel driveway were simple and convenient. Our dim sum were packed in a big purple bag and waiting for us at the appointed time for collection.

Wah Lok Takeaway Dim Sum Set Set A comprised the following:-

– 焗菠萝叉烧包 Baked Barbecued Pork Bun
– 烧卖 Steamed Pork Dumplings
– 水晶鲜虾饺 Steamed Prawn Dumplings
– 鲜虾付皮卷 Deep-fried Beancurd Skin Rolls with Shrimp
– 鱼露海鲜炒饭 Fried Rice with Seafood
– 菘化美人腰 Baked Custard Pastries.

The set was meant for 4 and the portion size was just about right.

The dim sum items were of the expected standard. The legendary Baked Barbecued Pork Bun was of course the standout item. However, it did not taste as good as we remembered it when we ate at Wah Lok (see our post Wah Lok Cantonese Restaurant – Weekend special and dim sum). Perhaps it was because the bun was served piping hot at the restaurant; or perhaps the elegant ambience and smartly attired staff at the restaurant had an impact on our perception of taste.

The seafood fried rice was good even when eaten at home. With prawns and sweet scallops and a nice aroma, it was very palatable. The most enjoyable item of the Wah Lok Takeaway Dim Sum Set was the Baked Custard Pastries. They were light and flaky and the filling had just the right degree of sweetness.

Good Dim Sum Meal

Overall, it was a good dim sum meal. At $51.35, the Wah Lok Takeaway Dim Sum Set was good for 4 persons. That worked out to just below $13 per person. That was quite a good price for a satisfying dim sum meal from Wah Lok Cantonese Restaurant.
