Yakiniku Like Takeaway Meal

Yakiniku Like in Paya Lebar Quarter is a specialty yakiniku fast food restaurant for affordable Japanese BBQ. We have not managed to eat in the popular restaurant but we enjoyed a good Yakiniku Like Takeaway meal at home.

Located in Basement 1 of the PLQ Mall, Yakiniku Like is a Japanese fast food-style yakiniku restaurant chain with the concept of individual smokeless roasters which allow each customer to enjoy what he likes at his own pace.

Yakiniku Like Singapore opened in February this year. As you can tell from the photos above, the new restaurant in PLQ Mall attracted a lot of attention. Months after its opening, there is still almost always a queue to get into the restaurant and the waiting time will be at least 30 minutes. Since we were just ordinary patrons, we never got the chance to attend their by invitation only opening event. Subsequently, we also had not been minded to join the long queue of diners waiting to get into the restaurant. So we did not get to try the affordable Japanese BBQ until recently when we saw that they had a Takeaway menu.

The Yakiniku Like Takeaway Menu offers the set meals you would get at the restaurant at the same prices. The only difference is that you don’t get to grill the meats yourself. Below is a picture of the takeaway menu.

The photos below show the items available in the restaurant. They give slightly more information about the set meals and a la carte items as well as a new Cheese Fondue flavour.

Yakiniku Like Takeaway

We ordered the Pork & Chicken Set ($12.80) and the Karubi Set ($13.80) for our Yakiniku Like Takeaway meal. The prices are are nett. In fact we had a 15% discount because we made our orders via foodpanda for self-collection.

Each set came with rice, kimchi, seaweed soup and some BBQ sauce. The kimchi was soft, tangy and not too spicy – quite enjoyable.

The amount of meats was quite substantial. The pork slices were quite thick and succulent. They were very enjoyable and preferable to the chicken slices. The dipping sauce would definitely add an extra kick.

The Karubi or short plate beef had a nice grilled colour though the marbling was not obvious. The thin slices were tender and had a slight sweetness.

Generous Portion Reasonable Price

All the grilled meats of our Yakiniku Like takeaway meal were good in terms of both flavour and texture. We could imagine that they would be even more enjoyable if they were hot and fresh from the grill. Considering the rather generous portion size and the quality of the meats, the prices were very reasonable. It is easy to understand why there is almost always a queue to get into the cosy 24 seater restaurant in PLQ Mall. It looks like we may not get to dine in Yakiniku Like Singapore anytime soon; unless we are prepared to wait in the queue for at least half an hour.
