1-Alfaro is a rooftop lifestyle venue developed by the 1-Group. Situated on the rooftop of Labrador Tower in the Greater Southern Waterfront, 1-Alfaro features two main components: the restaurant La Torre and the rooftop bar La Luna.

1-Alfaro

La Torre focuses on hearty Italian dishes inspired by Emilia-Romagna, a region in Italy often called “Italy’s Food Valley” for its rich gastronomic traditions. La Luna offers a lively bar experience with an inventive cocktail menu, classic drinks and a curated wine list. As day turns to night, the venue transforms from a relaxed dining spot to a vibrant social hub, complete with live DJ sets and alfresco seating that invites guests to soak in the sunset and city lights.

La Torre has a long narrow dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows. That allow almost every one in the restaurant to have panoramic views of Singapore Southern waterfront. The atmosphere is casual yet elegant.

Menu of La Torre

The kitchen is led by Chef Felix Chong, 1-Group’s Head Culinary Development for Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, and Chef Alessandro Giustteti, Chef de Cuisine at MONTI. They present traditional recipes with contemporary presentation.

The menu offers small plates for sharing like Adriatic Red Prawn Tartare and La Torre’s distinctive Fried Lasagna. Handcrafted pasta options provide flexibility with half and full portion choices. There are also fire-grilled meats and fish for communal dining, such as Australia Linz Ribeye on the bone ‘Costata’ and Iberico Tomahawk.

Pastas

Starter at La Torre

During our visit to the new restaurant, we tried two pasta dishes – the House-Made Pinwheel Pasta ($22) and Curzoli Romagnoli Thick Egg Pasta ($28).

House-Made Pinwheel Past

The pinwheel pasta was an interesting dish. The green spinach pasta was neatly rolled at the centre of the plate, with mussels and tomatoes arranged around it. The white wine sauce was light yet added depth to the dish. Overall, it was a flavourful pasta dish, though the portion size could have been more generous.

The Curzoli Romagnoli thick egg pasta had a very firm, chewy texture – more al dente than we expected. The Manila clams added a mild, briny sweetness, and the bottarga crumbs added a savoury, slightly salty crunch. The dish was simple but well-balanced.

Chicken & Lamb

French Savel Cornfed Spring Chicken 'Galletto'

The French Savel Cornfed Spring Chicken ‘Galletto’ ($28) looked simple. The whole spring chicken, served with caramelised onion and salsa verde, delivered a nice aroma and rich flavours.

The Australia Thomas Foods Lamb Rack

The Australia Thomas Foods Lamb Rack ($36) was impressive. The meat was tender. The lamb did not taste gamey and its flavours were enhanced by the infusion of garlic and herbs. It was a hearty and enjoyable dish.

Desserts

Desserts at La Torre

We had desserts with interesting flavour combinations at La Torre. We just thought that they could have been a tad more generous with the portion size.

The House-Made Burrata Gelato with Rosemary Tuile ($17) paired citrus crumbs, fig vincotto and grated parmesan cheese. The unusual elements were combined successfully. It was like cheese cake but better. We enjoyed the sweet and savoury dessert.

The Lambrusco Poached Pear ($17) combined Bosc pear with berries, Sicilian pistachio gelato and aged balsamic vinegar, creating a well-balanced sweet dish.

Drinks to Complement the Meal

  • La Torre’s International Beverages menu
  • La Torre’s drinks menu
  • La Torre’s beverage menu

La Torre’s beverage menu is extensive and well-curated. For those avoiding alcohol, the Virgin Mojito ($12) was refreshing and authentic in flavour.

We enjoyed a glass of the 2022 Tre Re Re Bianco ($15), an aromatic white wine from the hills of Faenza, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

Italian dining with great views

La Torre by MONTI offers an Italian dining experience in a setting that few other restaurants in Singapore can match. The ambience strikes a balance between casual comfort and understated elegance. The rooftop location provides great views that enhance the enjoyment of dishes inspired by Emilia-Romagna’s rich culinary heritage. It makes a suitable venue for date nights or gatherings with friends, family, or colleagues.
