Soi Thai Soi Nice is a pleasant looking Thai restaurant on level 3 of the Jem mall in Jurong East. It looked quiet and peaceful. The sign outside showed some $9.90++ lunch specials. I decided to have a quick simple lunch there.
The dining area of Soi Thai Soi Nice (JEM) restaurant has a bright contemporary look. The best seats are those right inside the restaurant near the large windows.
Soi Thai Soi Nice Menu
The Soi Thai Soi Nice menu has big photographs of the food, which is very useful. The website describes it as “Home of the Royal Thai Hotpots & Authentic Thai-Teochew Cuisines”. It was therefore no surprise to find a range of hotpots and a large proportion of seafood in the menu. But for a quick solo lunch, I looked at the low priced and simple items on the menu. Here are some sample pictures from the menu.
My Simple Lunch
As you can see I decided on a Basil Minced Pork Set with a lemongrass with lime drink ($9.90 + $2++). It did not look as beautiful as the picture on the menu, but close enough. The amount of basil minced pork was less than I expected.
The food was served on a plastic plate with very realistic print to make it look like a wicker basket. The dish was as described on the menu – rice with egg, glass noodle salad, minced pork, breaded prawn donut, prawn crackers, archar and belacan. The minced pork was good but the quantity was so little. So was the size of the prawn donut. The belacan was very good.
The lemongrass and lime drink was pleasant enough. $2 did not seem to be very expensive as an add on to the basic lunch. But then again it is about 20% of the cost of lunch. Perhaps that could be put to better use to ask for a larger quantity of ingredients on the rice.
