The revamped Funan Mall opened in June 2019 and has become a popular dining destination. The mall offers a wide range of cuisines at various price points available. If you are looking for affordable Chinese food in a proper full service restaurant, 乐天皇朝 Paradise Dynasty Funan is a good option.
乐天皇朝 Paradise Dynasty Funan
乐天皇朝 Paradise Dynasty Funan is tucked away in a corner of basement 1. Its bold red and green colour scheme helps to ensure that it is noticeable from afar.
The restaurant has various seating arrangements catering to the couples as well as big big groups.
Service was friendly and attentive. We were rather impressed by the offer of bags for face masks and wipes for both hands and utensils.
Menu of Paradise Dynasty Funan
Paradise Dynasty 乐天皇朝, part of the Paradise Group of restaurants, serves both northern and southern Chinese cuisine. It is perhaps most well known for its colourful Xiao Long Baos.
Below are pictures of a few pages of the rather extensive menu of Paradise Dynasty Funan.
Lunch at Paradise Dynasty Funan
We had dined at Paradise Dynasty outlet many times but had usually ordered their plain dumplings. For our recent lunch at Funan, we decided to try Paradise Dynasty colourful Xiao Long Baos – Mixed Dumplings ($17.80). We also ordered the Pan-fried Shanghai Pork Bun ($6.80), Crispy Vegetable Spring Roll ($6.80) and La Mian with Minced Meat ($10.80). Tea ($2 person) and Wet Wipes ($0.30 per person) would be charged and GST and service charge would be added to the bill.
Colourful Xiao Long Baos
Paradise Dynasty’s colourful Xiao Long Baos came in a big bamboo basket with instructions on the sequence of tasting the different flavours of dumplings, which included, foie gras, black truffle and crab roe. The black truffle, cheese and crab roe dumplings were the better ones but at the end of the day our verdict was that we liked the original plain Xiao Long Bao the best.
Dim Sum
Pan-fried Shanghai Pork Bun did not look as beautiful as similar buns we had seen in other restaurants. The taste was quite good. The bun was pan-fried so that the bottom had a crisp golden-brown crust and the sweet savoury char siew filling was nice.
The Crispy Vegetable Spring Roll was really crispy and tasty. It was a very enjoyable way to have vegetables as part of our meal.
Noodles
京味炸酱拉面 La Mian with Minced Meat or zha jiang miang came in a big bowl. The portion size was quite generous – enough to be shared by 2 persons if there were other dishes. The noodles had good texture and was well coated by the flavourful sauce. was full of flavour and freshness. It was a good version of the zha jiang miang.
Nice place for Chinese meal
Paradise Dynasty may be known for its colourful Xiao Long Baos but we liked the plain boring most of all. We rather enjoyed their other dishes too. Overall, Paradise Dynasty Funan is a pleasant and comfortable place to have a nice Chinese meal in Funan mall. There is sufficient variety on the menu and the prices are reasonable. It can be good for a quick meal as well as an elaborate family feast.
