Woodsmen by Cut Butchery is a new restaurant that has opened in Thomson Plaza. In addition to ordering from the restaurant menu, diners can purchase fish and meat products from the butchery in front and have them in the Woodsmen restaurant at the back with no additional cooking cost.

Butchery at Thomson Plaza
Cut Butchery has been around at Thomson Plaza for some time now. When it first set up on the doorstep of Fairprice Finest on level 2 of Thomson Plaza, we thought that it was quite brave of them to face the competition of the supermarket fresh produce section head-on. Many years later it seems that they have not only survived the competition but have thrived. They had recently relocated to a new and larger shop unit that is next to their former stall. The butcher is larger but what is more interesting is that they have also added a restaurant at the back of the butchery. It is called Woodsmen by Cut Butchery.

New Woodsmen by Cut Butchery Restaurant
The dimly lit restaurant is larger than what it seems from the outside. The deep long space is many times the size of the butchery in front. The dark ceiling and wooden furniture gave it a serious steakhouse feel while the dangling ‘plants’ and naked light bulbs added a beer garden atmosphere. Overall, we thought it had a warm and convivial atmosphere.

Seafood, Meat and Others
Proudly on display in the chiller in front were big pieces of meat and a large fish (we presume for aging).

In the chiller compartments in front were many types of chiller meat for sale. Further behind these counters are displays for frozen meats and seafood.

There were also fresh seafood available. Live lobsters and clams were kept alive in the aquarium.

Wine and other foodstuff were also displayed on the shelves. I can imagine it is easy to assemble a decent meal from the items at the shop.

WOODSMEN by Cut Butchery Menu
Here is a picture of the Woodsmen restaurant menu. For starters there are salads and soups. The choices for mains include Woodsmen Spit-Rotisserie Chicken ($18.80 for half; $36.80 for whole), Fish & Chips ($27.80, Crispy Confit Duck Leg high protein ($17.80 for one leg; $32 for two legs) and Grilled Lychee Lamb Shank ($36.80).

Fresh meat and seafood from the butchery can also be cooked and served in the new Woodsmen restaurant. This is the list stating the types of standard styles of cooking that do not incur additional cooking costs. Some specified ways of cooking may attract an additional charge as indicated in the list.

No Service Charge
The sign outside the restaurant states that GST is chargeable but no service charge. They also candidly ask diners to expect minimal service. Sounds like a fair deal. Restaurant concepts like this that provide an option for customers to pick the meat and have it cooked is not new in Singapore (eg. Culina Bistro), but this is the first we have seen that does not charge a cooking fee. We hope to return soon to try out this new restaurant in Thomson Plaza.
