Pistachio Grill is a place to at Orchard Road when looking for something other than the usual Western and Chinese food options. It seems that many people in Singapore have the same idea, making the Pistachio Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Grill quite a popular restaurant in Wheelock Place.
Pistachio Grill Restaurant at Wheelock Place
Located on level 2 of Wheelock Place, Pistachio Grill is a medium sized restaurant. It was a full house when we went for dinner on a weekday. It’s best to make a reservation before visiting. The Egyptian figures on the wall give diners an indication of the type of cuisine to expect.
Good range of Mediterranean cuisine at the restaurant. You can view the full menu online (link provided at the end of this post). We had visited the restaurant some time ago and also ordered food delivery from them. We decided to try items that we had not tried before.
Dinner at Pistachio, Wheelock Place
Starters, Dips, Appetisers
For starters we had Hummus and Garlic Cheese Pita ($8 each) and Tabouleh ($15 for small portion). The pita bread was very good – light and flavourful but the hummus was quite average, with a flavour that was quite mild.
This was the first time we were trying Tabouleh (picture below). According to Wikipedia, it is “a Levantine salad made mostly of finely chopped parsley, with tomatoes, mint, onion, soaked uncooked bulgur [a type of wheat grain], and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and sweet pepper. “ We are not sure if this version had all these ingredients but found it to be a fresh and appetising salad and will be happy to order this again.
We also had a hot appetiser – Black Mussels with Garlic Cream ($24). The mussels were decent – large and juicy. This was the first time trying mussels cooked in a creamy sauce. It was not bad, but I am not sure I would order this again as the combination of shellfish flavour with cream did not appeal to me.
Mains – Fish and Tagine Chicken
For main courses we had Fillet Marrakech ($28) and Chicken Tagine ($28). Each dish was accompanied by a substantial portion of rice. We enjoyed the grilled fish fillet but not the chicken as the gravy was too sweet for our liking.
Overall, we thought that dinner at Pistachio Grill at Wheelock Place had hits and misses. Nonetheless, it was an interesting interesting trying out new Middle Eastern dishes.
