A-One is a homegrown casual dining chain, best known for its claypot specialities and comforting porridge. Recently, the F&B group introduced the Congee Concept 粥拼拼. At the new Congee Concept, customers can customise their porridge just the way they like it, choosing from a range of toppings, from fresh seafood and savoury meats to classic sides.

Congee Concept at iMall

The new Congee Concept 粥拼拼 by A-One is located on the ground level of iMall in Marine Parade Central. The space is quite compact but efficiently laid out, with simple furniture. It is well lit and has an open feel.

There is a refrigerated display cabinet for the toppings for the self-customised porridge. You pick the ingredients and go to the counter and weigh and pay for your porridge.

Congee Concept is a self-service restaurant. You can place your order either using the digital screens or with the cashier, then pay at the counter. You will receive a receipt with your order number on it. Wait for your number to appear on the digital display, then go and collect your food and drinks.
Menu of Congee Concept
If do not want to customise your own porridge, there are standard varieties available on the menu. Besides porridge, they also offer a good selection of fried rice, noodles, side dishes and bento sets.

Porridge, Noodles, Rice & Bento

We tried a selection of dishes from various sections of the menu.
The Century Egg & Minced Meat Congee ($7.90) and Wok Hey Seafood Hor Fun ($8.90) were both of the expected standard. The porridge was smooth and creamy, with a satisfying texture and a well-balanced taste. The hor fun indeed had the requisite wok hei.

The side dish of Ngoh Hiang Roll ($2.90) went very well with the porridge. It was slightly crispy on the outside and juicy and flavourful on the inside.
We like Chinese sausages, so the Chicken and Sausage Claypot Rice ($9.90) was an easy winner in our books. It was a hearty dish with tender, succulent chicken pieces and savoury Chinese sausage, drizzled with thick dark soy sauce. Additional ingredients such as fresh vegetables, salted fish, and mushrooms added to the complexity of the flavours.

The Nyonya Sauce Seafood Bento ($13.90) was a good value meal. The set included steamed rice, soup, fried egg, vegetables, and the main item of seafood in nyonya sauce. The sauce was delightfully flavourful with a tangy kick and slight spiciness. Its complex blend of ingredients created an aroma that made the entire meal more appetising.

Congee Concept: More Than Just Porridge
Despite its name, Congee Concept offers much more than just porridge. In fact, the menu provides plenty of variety for anyone seeking either a simple meal or a one-dish option. They serve hearty food at reasonable prices. Congee Concept is definitely worth a visit for affordable, satisfying meals without any fuss.
